AIMDay Nov 14th, 2024 We had the privilege of hosting ?AIMDay on Nov 14th: an event uniting academia and industry through interactive discussions to create stronger partnerships. AIMDay?serves as a unique platform that brings together academics and industry leaders to exchange ideas, share expertise, and explore innovative solutions to real-world problems. This year’s event was jointly organized by?Monash Science , the?School of Mathematics, the?Monash Data Futures Institute, the?Monash Energy Institute and RACE for 2030. I had the honor of co-organizing this initiative with??Roger Dargaville, Tim Garoni,?Sarah Goodwin, ?Kais Hamza, Bill Lilley, Yiting Xie, Markus Wagner. I would like to extend my gratitude to Joanna Batstone, PhD and Claudia Del Campo, PhD Stuart Mills Hanif Bhuiyan, PhD for their support in the design/organization of the event. The event witnessed active participation from over 75 attendees, including representatives from 7 industry organizations, that submitted 8 questions. Through carefully facilitated ideation sessions, participants engaged in vibrant discussions to brainstorm strategies addressing the current and future challenges of the energy sector. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to?Monash University academics?for their expertise and contributions in?Mathematics, AI and?Energy. A special acknowledgment goes to our distinguished industry partners—CSIRO,?RACE for 2030, Opturion, ?Jemena, Powercor,??Veritas Tech, Wattsap Energy Solutions for sharing their invaluable perspectives and real-world challenges. These contributions provided a strong opportunity to connect scientific research with practical applications. I look forward to continuing these discussions. We are in the process of creating working groups on each of the questions.

Can’t believe it’s already been a week since we came 1st runner-up at Monash PITCH2024 (PhD Interdisciplinary Team Challenges 2024)! ?? The event, held at Monash University Malaysia, brought together 80 top-performing PhD students across all Monash faculties to tackle real-world problems aligned with the Monash Impact 2030 Strategic Plan. I had the incredible honour of collaborating with an amazing group of people, brainstorming ways to boost heritage tourism in Kuala Lumpur. ?? Over the course of the week, I learned so much from them, and it was a welcome break from my usual PhD work. The event was so well-organized, and I truly enjoyed every moment of it. Last week I had a wonderful experience attending the 2024 Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) Conference held in Darwin (Larrakia Country). It was a privilege to join Toby Walsh, UNSW AI Institute and Sami Azam, Charles Darwin University for a panel discussion on “Navigating the Landscape of AI in Research” moderated by Brett Szmajda, National AI Centre. We had a dynamic and stimulating Q&A with the audience delving into the role of research professionals in balancing #AI innovation with #research #integrity. I also presented a talk showcasing the Monash Data Futures Institute PhD Program, and how this scheme is fostering a generation of future AI thought-leaders at the intersection of #HASS and #STEM. The theme of the ARMS 2024 Conference “Global and Local Research Partnerships for a Sustainable Future” strongly aligns with our Institute and Monash University strategic priorities. I learned from experiences across Australasian Institutions, and discovered new tools and strategies for high-quality partnerships. Some key takeaways for me are: ?? Global and Local Research Partnerships: The importance of aligning stakeholder goals and practising effective cross-sector communication.? ?? Role of Research Professionals: A pivotal role in identifying opportunities, building relationships, and navigating funding requirements. ?? AI in Research: Tools like Generative AI and data mining are not only enhancing content creation but also breaking language barriers. ? Data Sovereignty: Strong data frameworks, balancing data security and privacy while ensuring access for research. ?? Iterative Learning and Reviews: Ensuring that research remains aligned with strategic goals and community needs. I am grateful to the ARMS VIC chapter for awarding me a travel grant and to MDFI for supporting my attendance, enabling me to establish links with colleagues across Australia and the broader region.
