  • Deloitte’s new policy offering six months of fully paid leave to all new fathers in the UK is a game-changer—not just for dads, but for women in leadership as well. ??♀? Deloitte’s recent move to offer six months of fully paid leave to all new fathers in the UK feels like a major step forward—not just for dads, but for women in leadership, too. This new policy, which went into effect in January 2025, equalizes parental leave for all employees, giving fathers the same 26 weeks of fully paid leave that new mothers already receive. The reason? To help more women advance in leadership. ?? A policy like this isn’t just about fairness for fathers—it directly benefits working mothers. When men are expected to work at full capacity after having a child, women inevitably absorb more of the caregiving responsibilities. Read what needs to change next here: https://lnkd.in/dQjgBkMK

The hidden cost of paid leave: Are your employees suffering in silence? New studies by Aflac and Prudential Financial reveal a startling trend: while paid leave is crucial, it can significantly impact the employees left behind. Nearly 3 out of 4 American workers experience stress and anxiety when covering for colleagues on leave, with burnout becoming a major concern, especially for extended absences. This raises a critical question: How can organizations better support their workforce during these transitions? Key findings include: ?? 48% of employers have seen an increase in employee leaves in the past 12 months. ?? A disconnect exists: 94% of employers report taking action to support covering employees, but only 74% of employees feel supported. ?? 73% of workers experience stress and anxiety while covering for a coworker. ?? 42% of workers experience burnout when covering for extended leaves (beyond 9 weeks). These statistics underscore the importance of a holistic approach to leave management. It's not just about offering paid leave; it's about ensuring a sustainable workload for those remaining, fostering open communication, and recognizing their contributions. As Jenny Merrithew, vice president, Marketplace Solutions at Aflac, said, "As more states and employers embrace paid leave as a covered benefit and as a means to attract top talent, it becomes more essential that all parties gain a greater awareness of how it will impact the ecosystem in terms of bandwidth, costs and productivity." What strategies does your organization employ to support employees covering for colleagues on leave? Let's discuss! ?? https://lnkd.in/e__a2v-F

?? Breaking Ground for Families in New York! ?? New York is set to make history with the nation’s first-ever Paid Prenatal Leave policy, taking effect January 1, 2025! This groundbreaking law gives pregnant workers 20 hours of paid leave for pregnancy-related medical appointments, ensuring no woman in New York has to choose between a paycheck and essential care. ?? Here’s why it matters: - Nearly 40% of women who skip prenatal care cite unpaid leave or unaffordable care as the reason. - Regular prenatal care improves health outcomes for both moms and babies, reducing complications and infant mortality. - Women of color, especially Black women, face disproportionately higher risks during pregnancy. Paid prenatal leave is a step toward health equity. New York is also launching a statewide awareness campaign to ensure eligible New Yorkers know their rights. Ads, social media outreach, and stakeholder collaboration will amplify this critical message. Let’s applaud this milestone for maternal health and workforce equity. ?? #LeadershipInAction #PaidPrenatalLeave #MaternalHealth #WorkplaceEquity #NewYorkFamilies #NYPFL https://lnkd.in/dt-5xruE

See what Simple Modern just announced to better support its working parents! #leadership #childcarecosts #chasingchange

    查看Mike Beckham的档案

Co-Founder and CEO of Simple Modern

Today, I made a big announcement to the entire Simple Modern team. Every team member will receive up to $6,000 in childcare reimbursements as a part of their annual compensation. It's a significant expense, but I'm proud to have business partners who believe it is the right thing to do. When we started Simple Modern, my children were toddlers. Over the last ten years, I've experienced first-hand the tension of striving for excellence in the business world while prioritizing family. I've also observed that it is particularly challenging for talented women who feel called to work and motherhood. They shouldn't feel forced to choose between the two. If we are serious about gender equality, we should put our money where our mouth is. Unsurprisingly, our country is experiencing rapidly falling birth rates. Instead of waiting for the government to fix this issue, we are proactive. We believe in helping people start families, and we're committed to doing our part. Over the past 10 years, childcare costs have exploded across the country. In many situations, the annual cost of childcare can be more than a full-time salary. It doesn't make sense to lose talented men and women from the workforce because of poor incentives. If we want to change this dynamic, we must change the math. Other things need to be done. We need to create more childcare to bring costs down, and we should have tax incentives for working parents. I hope our political leaders will do their part in the years ahead. From day one, our goal has been to create a company that doesn't force people to choose between their careers and their families. Balancing these areas of our lives is not easy, but with the proper support, it is possible. My children have been one of the greatest joys of my adult life. I'm proud to lead a business that supports families.

?? Family-friendly policies are for everyone—whether you’re a working parent or not! ?? In this week’s episode of the Moms With Benefits Podcast, host Samantha Saxby chatted with Allison Ward, SHRM-CP, Chief People Officer at Walker Sands. Allison shared her incredible insights on enacting change and advocating for family-friendly policies in the workplace. ?? Key takeaways from Allison’s experience: 1?? Connect & Learn: Encourage employees to connect with colleagues who’ve navigated leave policies or seek advice from others outside the organization. Learning from others’ experiences can make the transition smoother for new parents. 2?? Advocates Matter: Ensure there are advocates within your organization—ideally, someone influential who truly understands the challenges. In places without formal HR, this could be a leader who’s faced these issues firsthand. 3?? Be Specific: It’s not just about paid leave duration. Focus on the entire experience—resources provided before, during, and after leave are crucial for a smooth transition and reintegration. Remember: as #HR professionals, it’s our job to foster a strong community in our workplaces to enable these conversations. By taking a holistic approach and being clear in our advocacy, we can create policies that genuinely support employees and enhance their well-being. Together, we can make a difference! ?? ??
