Unitus Community Credit Union was awarded LEED Silver Certification for its Unitus Business Center (UBC) in Tigard, OR! Recognized as the most widely used green building rating system, LEED certification represents a significant achievement in sustainable building design and environmental stewardship. Earning Silver certification places UBC-Tigard among a select group of high-performing buildings that meet rigorous standards for sustainability, occupant health, and energy efficiency. In partnership with design-build firm Momentum, Unitus implemented wellness and sustainability-focused design and construction strategies that contributed to its LEED Silver achievement. Among project achievements were credits for enhanced indoor air quality strategies, interior lighting, and the use of low-emission materials, ensuring a healthier and more energy-efficient workspace. “Obtaining LEED Silver certification is an integral part of our shared values in caring for People and Planet. This accomplishment encapsulates the hours of planning, construction, and documentation between the Unitus Facilities Team and Momentum,” said Steven Stapp, President and CEO of Unitus Community Credit Union. “The Unitus Board, Staff, and Members appreciate the high standards that were achieved, as this serves as an important cornerstone of our environmental sustainability stewardship.” UBC-Tigard is located adjacent to five acres of on-site wetlands, which Unitus has committed to conserving as part of its broader sustainability efforts. Complementing this natural area, Momentum developed outdoor community spaces featuring sustainably grown laminated wood timbers, native landscaping, and active amenities, including a pickleball court and putting green. We would like to congratulate our Senior Interior Designer, Caitlin Tallar, who has earned her Certified Office Ergonomics Evaluator Certification from Humanscale. This is just one example of our team’s dedication to continuous learning as a way of meeting personal goals as well as serving our clients. Why is ergonomics expertise important? Caitlin has five new insights to share on what you might be doing wrong: ?? Myth 1: Mouse pad wrist cushions improve ergonomics ? Reality: These actually double intra-carpal tunnel pressure, adding compression and friction to the wrist. ??Myth 2: Reclining in your chair is bad posture??? ?Reality: A 100-110 degree recline is ideal—it distributes body weight to the backrest, reducing spinal pressure. ??Myth 3: The standard 29” desk height is ideal ?Reality: This height is based on a 6’4” user, but most employees need a lower desk for proper ergonomics. ??Myth 4: Standing desks and mats solve everything ?Reality: Standing all day is just as bad as sitting all day. The best approach? Sit for 45 minutes, stand for 15. If you need a mat, you’re doing too much standing. ??Myth 5: Keyboard tilt legs improve typing comfort ?Reality: Tilting the keyboard upward forces the wrists into a strained position. Instead, keep it flat or slightly declined. ? Momentum’s human-centric design approach ensures that ergonomics isn’t an afterthought—it’s a core part of how we build workspaces that foster wellness and success. Reach out to Momentum today to learn how you can deliver a healthier and more ergonomic workplace environment for your team. Whitney Loe, SCMS Mark Alguard Jenny Bengeult
