Building Michigan’s workforce of tomorrow! A young man named RJ recently shared his incredible career journey with Wnem Tv 5 Anchor Collette Boyd, highlighting the impact of our client Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO)'s Young Professionals Program. Through the program, RJ gained hands-on training that led to a full-time role as a Water Jet Operator at Interpower Induction, becoming one of only two people certified to operate this specialized machinery. While excelling in his career, RJ is also pursuing his education in mechatronics at Mott Community College. The program not only provided him with on-the-job training but also funded 12 weeks of wages, giving his employer the ability to invest in mentoring and skill development without financial strain. Thanks, WNEM-TV, for the highlight! https://lnkd.in/g7s39ZUw

Today, I had the privilege of attending the Electric School Bus Teach-In Event at Lansing Technical High School, where we explored funding opportunities and strategies to deploy more EV buses in the Lansing School District and beyond. The transportation sector accounts for nearly a third of Michigan’s carbon emissions, and by electrifying school bus fleets, we’re not only reducing emissions but also advancing the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan. A bus ride on an EV bus can set a student’s day up for success. A quiet ride to school not only creates a calmer, more focused environment for our kids to start their day, but these buses can also improve the air we breathe. By creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for students, we are dedicated to keeping them on track to achieving their dreams along with keeping money in the classroom where it belongs. Electric school buses also offer a range of benefits that go beyond the school day. In the event of a power outage, these buses can be deployed into neighborhoods, serving as generators on wheels to support communities in need. I want to give a huge thank you to Highland Electric Fleets, Electrification Coalition, Clean Fuels Michigan, and the World Resources Institute for organizing this impactful event. I’d also like to extend my gratitude to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 Life Scientist Julia Frusciante, Lansing School District Superintendent Ben Shuldiner, Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation (MAPT) Executive Director Katrina Morris, Lansing Board of Water & Light Manager of Energy Planning and Decarbonization Anna Munie, Pontiac School District Energy and Technology Innovation specialist Bill Holcomb and THREE RIVERS COMMUNITY SCHOOLS Transportation Supervisor Kenni Jean Schrader for their leadership in driving programs like these forward. Together, we are making Michigan a model for clean energy transformation and a state that prioritizes our children’s health, strengthens our communities and advances the vision of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.

#ClientNews Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Infrastructure Office announced a $22.2M investment to advance the Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen hub, also known as MachH2, thanks to funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. With production facilities Ypsilanti, Detroit and Flint, the funding will advance the next phase of planning and development of regional supply chains for the creation, distribution and use of clean hydrogen for public transit, trucking and industrial use. MachH2 is anticipated to create 12,000 direct jobs and catalyze further growth and economic opportunities in the developing hydrogen sector. This funding is positioning Michigan at the forefront of clean energy innovation and building a robust hydrogen supply chain. https://lnkd.in/gkHE-3dx

Last week, I was at the beautiful Macray Harbor in Harrison Township for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE)? 2024 Binational Lake St. Clair Conference. This long-standing event celebrates a milestone of 25 years of partnership with Canada, where we work together to preserve and restore the beauty, biodiversity and resilience of Lake St. Clair. EGLE's work with our Canadian partners is focused on protecting Lake St. Clair’s water quality, tackling invasive species and supporting shoreline resiliency. Lakes like St. Clair are not just ecologically important; they are economic engines, bolstering industries from tourism to fisheries and providing essential natural habitats that sustain biodiversity and filter water for millions. Our dedication to protecting Michigan’s waters goes hand in hand with our mission to foster a thriving environment and economy. Our partnership with Canada demonstrates that when we work together across borders, we can rise to the challenge of preserving our lakes for future generations.
