Curious whether you have ever declined or delayed a promotion? Looking back, what did you learn?

35% of women have declined or delayed a promotion due to personal or family obligations. This stat frustrates me. I know the data is accurate because I hear this regularly. It pinpoints the "suffer in silence" that I see much of. Recently, I discussed working motherhood on a panel. When asked if I ever sidestepped my career in order to juggle better, my response was, "Absolutely not." I chose to pursue both paths fiercely, doing it my own way. While my choice may not suit everyone, it emphasizes the importance of having the freedom to choose the path.

  • Working moms know all about #andthistoo. The many hats that make the world go ‘round. When I was consulting, I traveled nearly every week. That’s been a while. The past couple weeks I had travel for a dinner with the Economic Club of Chicago, a client meeting, and family vacation. Fun to be back “on the road” in different contexts. Cheers to all the moms wearing all the hats.

This work?sets my soul on fire.??? Helping women leaders—especially moms—advance their careers while showing up?the way?they?want?at home. Nothing more fulfilling. One conversation at a time, we’re rewriting the script. No more choosing between success and presence. No more outdated expectations. Just empowered women leading in a way that works?for them. Are you doing the thing you were made for? Do you hop out of bed in the morning filled with excitement? Do the days fly by, never enough time for all you wish to accomplish? Even the hard conversations fuel me. Every session, every story, every breakthrough leaves me inspired. And the organizations that invest in these women? They get it. They see the impact. And that inspires me even more. What work sets?your?soul on fire????

I was scrolling last weekend and paused on a clip of a Tom Hanks interview. He was talking about the pivotal advice he received from a director early in his career. The cast had been running lines and the director stopped and yelled at the crew to take a break. Frustrated, he demanded this of the actors when they returned: 1?? Show up on time - This means more than managing the clock, it means planning ahead, and being respectful of others. 2?? Know the text - In business this means more than knowing your material, it means knowing the context too. 3?? HAVE AN IDEA - I love this one! And I wish I'd been given this encouragement and expectation right away in my career. Do the work, be prepared, think forward, have an idea, and share that idea. This is great advice for all of us, especially young careerists.

Where is it time to make the decision and take the risk?

This one stopped me in my tracks. How often do we get stuck in the loop of planning, questioning, and second-guessing—waiting for the “perfect” moment? ??♀? But here’s the truth: indecision is a decision. And more often than not, the cost of standing still is greater than the risk of moving forward. ?? Anyone else feeling this Winter of 2025?

Anyone else feel like they're running a homeschool this January? Between days off and sick days, I think my kids have been home more than they've been at school! I'm juggling their needs (and lunches!) along with new year proposals, tons of events and Q1 goals. Here's the thing: It's a short window. This flu season of 2025 will be over before we know it. And, frankly, the years of caring for sick kids are numbered too. When your team members are facing this struggle, give a little grace. With open communication, clear expectations, and a ton of grit, they'll rise to the occasion. Moms always do. #workingmoms #womeninleadership #professionaldevelopment

Leadership development nets a 7x return on investment. Think about that. All the investments we make as business leaders with unclear, unproven, undetermined ROI. And yet, this opportunity to do the right thing is both simple and measurable. In addition to a healthy ROI, leadership development: Enhances performance Secures profit Drives opportunity Elevates loyalty When we work with businesses, we do the math to determine their ROI. As a former CFO, I care about the numbers - they matter to the team making decisions about leader development and they matter to me to quantitatively validate the work we do. #leadershipdevelopment #womenleaders #ROI ************************* We help businesses develop and retain talented women leaders, to grow their leadership pipeline and create more executive women leaders.

Every morning I come down the stairs and curse this tree. When we put it up, only 1 row of lights at the bottom was working. So we carefully laid out 4 strings of working lights and wrapped the tree. It was beautiful! And the first morning I came down a chunk near the top was out. Next day the whole top 3rd wasn't working. Then a section of the middle went out. Lighting the tree to sit and drink my coffee is the first thing I like to do in the morning. As I sat looking at this tree, it reminded me of the way I describe being a working mom: * CHALLENGING * IMPERFECT * WORTH IT! This tree brings me joy, no matter how challenging and imperfect it is. All of you out there closing out Q4 goals, while also making the holidays special for everyone around you, I see you! Take care of you, too. It may be challenging and imperfect, this season (and all year round). But it's so WORTH IT!
