  • One of the toughest challenges in multi-shot lighting is managing trapped gas and air from the second shot, which can burn against the first shot. Due to part design restrictions on seal-off edges, these areas are often thinner and deeper in the tool, making traditional venting methods ineffective. ?? The flow of plastic naturally follows the path of least resistance, causing thin edges to hesitate and create “Reverse V” filling patterns. Fortunately, these patterns can often be addressed early in the design process through localized thickness adjustments (using flow leaders and restrictors). ?? However, even with proactive design changes, challenging part geometries can still create problem areas. This is where Mold-Vac comes into play. By implementing parting line vacuum lines that rapidly evacuate air from the tool, we can significantly reduce air-related defects in these problematic areas. ?? For deeper and more complex venting challenges, stacked or laminated inserts connected to the Mold-Vac system can provide direct air evacuation deep into the tool. Additionally, Mold-Vac’s blowback feature helps keep inserts clean and free of debris, ensuring optimal performance. Enhances Part Appearance ? Simplifies Tooling & Reduces Costs ? Porcerax II? is a sintered, porous metal heat-treated to 30-40 HRC with 25% porosity by volume. Its interconnected pores, averaging 7 microns (.0003") or 20 microns (.0008"), create an advanced system that allows for gas venting in critical mold areas. ? By using Porcerax II? in specific regions, you can eliminate gas buildup, lower injection pressure, shorten cycle times, and significantly reduce scrap and reject rates—all while achieving superior part quality. ? Porcerax II? is particularly beneficial in hard-to-mold areas where traditional venting methods (like parting line vents or vent plugs) may not be sufficient. Since the material is 25% air by volume, one-fourth of its surface area acts as a vent, providing an efficient, localized solution to vent trapped gas.
