I'm am often horrified by the over-engineered infrastructure I see at early stage-startups and even at established organizations. Some things I advocate: -Static hosting on a CDN wherever possible (S3, Google Cloud Store). It's cheap, fast, and lacks many of the vulnerabilities of server-side applications. Very easy to set up. -Containerized, auto-scaling application servers (Google Cloud Run or AWS Fargate for instance). Cheap when you're small, and scales with you. Stop managing servers and VM instances! -Go out-of-the box when appropriate. Squarespace, Webflow, Shopify, Hubspot, and other off-the shelf solutions are great as long as you're not asking them to do things they're not built to do. Some things that suck: -Servers hanging around using electricity and wasting your money when they're not even being used. -Hands-on scale management. -Big infrastructure bills before you've even launched. -Private networks. The zero-trust philosophy is where it's at! -Salesforce. (Come at me!) -Wordpress. Don't do it! My favorite thing to do with Wordpress is to get people off it.
