We're pleased to announce that Greenway Office Park is an Architecture MasterPrize winner in the Restoration + Renovation category! Not only that, but the Greenland School District Administration Office and the Osage Park Pavilion both received Honorable Mention in the Small Architecture and Recreational Architecture categories, respectively. Many thanks to The Architecture MasterPrize program, our design partners at Ecological Design Group, our visionary clients at Blue Crane, Greenland School District, and Trailblazers, and the entire design and construction teams! This is modus studio's second project to receive the Architecture Masterprize. In 2022, Coler Mountain Bike Preserve received the Best of Best in the Recreational Architecture category. Two of our other projects have received Honorable Mention in the past, including England Elementary School and Centennial Park Pavilion in 2023. Do you recognize any parks by their architectural elements? ??? Even with all the excitement around our 18th Pecha Kucha event last week, modus associate architect Michael Pope snuck off to Jonesboro, Arkansas, for the annual Arkansas Recreation & Parks Association conference and tradeshow. While there, Michael presented a park planning educational session titled Architecture as Art: Park Buildings That Contribute to the Experience of Place. We all know that parks can inspire and engage the community, but Michael asserts that architectural elements should transform parks into immersive art experiences and that the architecture itself can contribute to the park's memorable identity and character. "We all value and understand the significant physical, mental, and social benefits that parks bring to our communities. PK18 is this Friday at modus studio! ?? Join us from 6-9 pm (Friday 9/27) at our studio and shop as we host our 18th Pecha Kucha! Since the spring of 2014, we have hosted over 100 presenters at this event, and this time we'll have another incredible group sharing their unique stories. Each speaker shares 20 slides on a topic of their choice for 20 seconds per slide. On top of all these great presentations, we'll also have the talented Kevin Blagg providing the mood music and Sparks Wood Fired Pizza slinging delicious pies. No ticket is required. It was an inspiring day at the Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation construction site as the community celebrated the topping-out and beam-signing ceremony. The event included remarks by Yvonne Farrell, founder and principal of Grafton Architects, University of Arkansas Chancellor Charles Robinson, Dean Peter MacKeith of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, and several others. Located in the Windgate Art and Design District at the University of Arkansas, the Anthony Timberlands Center will be a center of excellence for innovation in wood design and product development to expand the use of Arkansas-sourced timber and wood in architectural design, construction techniques, and product design. The facility will serve as the epicenter for the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design's multiple timber and wood design initiatives, house the school's existing and expanding design-build program and fabrication technologies laboratories, and serve as the new home to the school's emerging graduate program in timber and wood design. Our increasing focus on research is helping to position us at the forefront of architectural innovation. Through studies on materials, energy efficiency, spatial dynamics, and the human experience in buildings, we can explore the obscure complexities of architecture helping to create groundbreaking design and construction techniques. Our team consistently pushes the boundaries of architectural practice by fostering a culture of rigorous curiosity and experimentation, ensuring that our designs contribute to a more resilient, equitable, and human-centered built environment. To further our commitment to this, we are pleased to announce that leading these efforts will be Sarah Bartz, who has been elevated as our Research Lead. Sarah graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. At Clemson, she focused on material-driven research projects while learning the basics of design through studio and travel. This led her to pursue both a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Digital and Material Technology from the University of Michigan. Sarah now guides the firm’s research initiatives, ensuring modus studio remains at the forefront of architectural innovation, particularly within the education and K-12 market. She oversees various research projects, develops methodologies for recording design successes, and works to establish standards for our research. She has a proven track record of conducting in-depth research, analyzing data, and translating findings into actionable insights. Sarah’s exceptional research skills and growing understanding of the education market make her an invaluable asset to our team. Her expertise will undoubtedly contribute to our continued success and leadership in the industry.
