Six years ago, at a Farmers Market, our MWC sign asked passersby, "Can you choose which woman is a widow?" What we discovered was eye-opening—the myths surrounding #widowhood run deep. It became an opportunity to raise awareness and share a startling fact: every 2 minutes, a woman in the U.S. becomes a #widow—that’s 2,800 new #widows every day! Yet, not a single person who stopped to speak with us knew where to refer a widow for support. Interestingly, men seemed more comfortable engaging in conversation than women. People of all ages shared heartfelt and profound insights about #widowhood. One of the meaningful new 2024 initiatives we introduced into Modern Widows Club?? | The Movement for Widow Care (MWC) is the formation of a dedicated #community and #prayer team for our wisters? (widow + sisters). These compassionate #volunteers around the country will unite to receive and respond to the many prayer requests from the thousands of #widows within our organization. If you would like to step forward and be on our Wister? Prayer Team, as a purposeful volunteer for this initiative, please see the attached link for more information. Nonprofit impact takes on a unique shape for each organization. For us, it’s reflected in the 388 new #widows in the last 60 days who have completed our Widow Empowerment Quiz—a self-assessment tool that helps them understand where they are on their Hope, Heal, Grow, and Lead pathway to healthy widowhood. Each #widow who found our resource online encountered a life-changing moment on her journey. This tool enables us to gather valuable insights, connect each widow to resources tailored to her current stage, and empower her to thrive from day one. We’re deeply grateful for the trust these women place in us, and for their belief in both our mission and in their own capacity to reclaim health and hope. Widowhood is undeniably challenging—each step is emotional, overwhelming, and yet rich with potential for growth. We’re honored to walk this journey alongside her, every step of the way.
