If we accept that future battlefield problems will at least partly require technological solutions, shouldn't we be enabling the tactical-level units that are facing those problems to help develop the solutions? Asking for a sister service.

The 1973 Arab-Israeli War deeply influenced the development of US Army doctrinal reforms in the late Cold War. In this MWI research report, Nathan A Jennings, PhD explores the lessons it holds for the Army's implementation of its Multidomain Operations doctrine today.

"One hundred casualties at the battalion level in a LSCO fight in a major battle—what is that one surgical team going to be able to do for me? Not a lot." In Iraq and Afghanistan, an extraordinary number of service members survived wounds that would have been fatal in any previous conflict. But that casualty care was enabled by conditions that simply won't be present on the future battlefield.

"It's not just the tech. It's the tech plus the operations, and they need to coevolve." The Army's XVIII Airborne Corps worked with tech companies to field a new, AI-enabled piece of software. The way they did it is as important as the capabilities of the software itself.

How prepared is the United States—militarily, economically, and otherwise—for the prospect of a protracted war?

"The reserve component Ranger battalion would also encourage Rangers who are leaving active duty to transition to the Army National Guard.... It would mean the opportunity for the Army to bolster the return on its substantial investment in these elite soldiers." What if the Army added an additional Ranger battalion? And what if it placed it in the Army National Guard?
