Tomorrow is #InternationalWomensDay! We’re celebrating our community of mainly young, immigrant women and girls who are courageously organizing for safer and more dignified working conditions across fashion’s supply chain – and invite you to take action: → Donate to support our worker-led #KnowYourRights campaign for the #FashionWorkersAct, which will ensure models understand their newfound rights and how to exercise them once the law takes effect in June.?modelalliance.org/donate → Pledge to amplify garment workers’ message to Nike demanding wage increases and labor rights protections as part of Global Labor Justice and Asia Floor Wage Alliance's #FightTheHeist campaign. Over 1,000 workers will be showing their faces publicly for the first time on 3/21, and they need your help to ensure Nike hears them. https://bit.ly/nikePAYup Thank you for standing with workers in fashion!

Fair treatment equal opportunity and sustainable practices in the fashion industry from the runway to the factory floor.
关于我们
By assisting models and other stakeholders in understanding the laws applicable to them, and by encouraging them to have a voice in their work, the Model Alliance identifies common areas of concern in the fashion industry, conducts strategic research with leading research institutions to inform policy initiatives, and educates the industry and the public about our core issues. Model Alliance is a New York-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Vision “Surely one of the great ironies of the modern world is that democracy, imperfect as it is in the political realm, seldom extends to the workplace.”- George Cheney The Model Alliance has a broad vision for labor solidarity. We believe the fashion community occupies a power platform to campaign for transformative change. To effect change, however, people working in the industry need to have a voice in their work. That “voice” can take many forms, from industry surveys to committees and campaigns. As the faces of the fashion industry, models are in a unique and powerful position to inject a new labor consciousness into fashion—one that encourages fair treatment, equal opportunity, and more sustainable practices in this highly influential, global industry. By organizing a dynamic group of models, industry stakeholders, and academics, we aim to foster a mutually supportive eco-system of industry leaders who will harness their distinct strengths to promote greater transparency and accountability in the fashion industry, both at home and abroad. Together, we can improve the fashion industry from the runway to the factory floor. ?Programs ー The RESPECT Program is a program of the Model Alliance that invites companies in the fashion industry to make an enforceable commitment to stop harassment and other forms of abuse. ?Community Engagement and Education ?Strategic Research and Reports ?Advice and Support ?Public Speaking Engagements ?Legislative Advocacy

Last week, our executive director Sara Ziff delivered the keynote address at the Federal Bar Association's Fashion Law Conference, hosted at Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller LLP in NYC. Speaking to an audience of fashion lawyers and law students, Ziff highlighted the troubling history of fashion workers facing abuse due to the lack of regulation in the industry. She emphasized that laws are only effective when properly enforced and outlined the ways models will be empowered to assert their rights under the #FashionWorkersAct — whether by filing complaints with the labor commissioner or pursuing legal action against management companies that violate those rights. Thank you to our partner, Omidyar Network, for inviting us to participate in this important discussion about AI’s impact on the future of work. We were pleased to highlight the #FashionWorkersAct as one of the first laws to protect workers against the misuse of AI, and mention our collaboration with Data & Society Research Institute and the Worker Institute at Cornell University ILR School on a research study to better understand the impact of AI on fashion workers and explore its potential benefits with proper guardrails in place. This is what it looks like when leaders across industries come together to share perspectives on the impact of #AI and digital tech on jobs and workers ?? This week, our CEO Michael Kubzansky invited Congressman Ro Khanna and leaders from government, philanthropy, academia, tech, and labor to discuss: ?? How advances in AI can augment jobs, rather than replace them. ?? How AI can be responsibly deployed in the workplace. ?? How to ensure that all of society reaps the benefits of technological progress with solutions beyond worker reskilling and social safety net programs. Conversations like these are a crucial part of Omidyar Network's mission to bend the arc of the #DigitalRevolution toward shared power, prosperity, and possibility. Reimagining digital tech and its influence is only possible through intentionally engaging diverse perspectives—especially critical voices, like those of workers, that have been left out of the conversation.

This New York Fashion Week marks the last season models will go without basic rights and protections as workers. In June 2025, our signature law, the Fashion Workers Act, will set a groundbreaking precedent for the fashion industry and help align its progressive values with its practices. We have created a comprehensive explainer to help our community and the public understand the law and the crucial new rights models can expect when it goes into effect, including greater financial transparency, protections against harassment and discrimination, and greater control over their image with safeguards against nonconsensual AI manipulation. We’re committed to keeping you informed and building worker power, so we’ll be launching a more extensive Know Your Rights campaign soon. In the meantime, download our explainer and subscribe to our newsletter for the latest updates: modelalliance.org/fwa
