MOCA Jacksonville is pleased to announce Project Atrium: Rafael Lozano-Hemmer "Spectral Subjects," a new interactive artwork that will open Thu, Dec 12, 2024. The piece is a thermal observatory—a constantly updating map of the room’s temperature, projected in the round. Using state of the art thermographic cameras, the project detects and displays heat and cold in the environment, including visitors’ body heat, the building’s ventilation, and inanimate objects. As with previous biometric art projects by Lozano-Hemmer, the piece is a call to think of the human body as a continuum with the environment around us. Exhibition Presenting Sponsor Joan and Preston Haskell Supporter Wende Wilson // Project Atrium Sponsor Driver, McAfee, Hawthorne & Diebenow, PLLC. // Special thanks to Galeria Max Estrella, Madrid and Antimodular Studio, Montréal // Centennial Sponsors Lauren and Ted Baker, City of Jacksonville, Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, Jessie Ball duPont Fund, Florida Blue, Joan and Preston Haskell, MOCA Board Alumni Council, MOCA Inaugural Director’s Circle Members, MOCA Board of Trustees, Brooke and Hap Stein, University of North Florida, Visit Jacksonville, VyStar Credit Union >> Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Spectral Subjects (rendering for MOCA Jacksonville), 2024.
