Introducing three heroes of today - Rebekah, Sharon and Tracy - all who rolled up a sleeve at Sabathani Community Center, showing us all the power of compassion by donating blood. Rebekah, the Community Health Navigator for Sabathani, donated with the belief, "If I'm encouraging others to donate, I should lead by example." Rebekah's initial jitters were eased by the phlebotomist who guided her throughout the process. Understanding the importance of transfusions and the impact of matching ethnicities for sickle cell patients, she felt passionate to step in, even though sickle cell disease hadn’t directly affected her family. Sharon, a former Red Crosser, hadn't donated in many years, but dusted off her hiatus today returning stronger than ever, responding to her niece, Rebekah's call. Tracy went from being a volunteer at the blood drive to becoming a first-time blood donor today. Her mantra is etched on her arm, 'Each day is a gift', and she's happy to share this gift of life! To those reading her story, she says, "The process doesn't take too long. If more people understood that, there might be more donors!" Three incredible women with three inspiring stories, all channeled towards one life-saving mission! A heartfelt thanks to Sabathani Community Center for organizing their first blood drive. We're excited to continue our partnership and raise community awareness on the importance of blood donation for the benefit of patients with sickle cell disease.
