Exciting News! The MMSD Board of Education has officially moved to name Southside Elementary School after MMSD alum and advocate Lori Mann Carey! A proud Madison native and champion of education, Lori Mann Carey made a lasting impact on our community by founding programs that uplift and support scholars. Her legacy will now live on in a school that serves over 350 students in the neighborhood she called home. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with our community as we begin this new chapter together. The name will officially take effect in the 2025–26 school year. Join us in honoring Lori Mann Carey and the values she stood for! #mmsdpeoplepurposepride

Superintendent Joe Gothard, Ed.D. School Visits: Engaging with Staff and Students Across the District Dr. Joe Gothard, Superintendent of our district, continues to make valuable connections throughout the community as he visits schools across the district. These two-hour visits provide crucial insight into the day-to-day experiences of our students and staff, fostering deeper understanding and clarity about what’s working well and where there are opportunities for growth. A true highlight has been the candid moments with students, reminding us all of the innocence and joy that make our schools so special. From a student requesting grilled cheese every day (and another sharing they’d eaten three before the meeting!) to another expressing a love for frogs, these conversations reinforce the importance of staying connected with those who matter most—our students. There are still more schools on Dr. Gothard’s schedule, and he looks forward to continuing to engage with each of these communities to learn, grow and move forward together. Together, we are building a brighter future for our students and our community. #MMSDPeoplePurposePride
