?? Across the EU, more than 50% of drinking water is lost due to leaking pipes, inefficient management, and outdated infrastructure. To tackle this issue, we partnered with Pipelife International to develop a product that helps prevent unnecessary water loss. The Smart Probe enables real-time monitoring of drinking water pipes without disrupting the network. By increasing the number of sensors within the grid, we enhance visibility and improve water supply management. A key challenge was to make installation as efficient and error-proof as possible. Since the pipeline remains operational during installation, downtime is minimized, and end users are never left without water. To support a seamless and safe installation process, we designed a structured, step-by-step workflow that ensures each step is completed correctly before moving forward, ensuring a systematic and safe installation. ?? Proof of concept done right ?? In a recent project, we developed a low-power IoT prototype for an aftermarket product. Our focus was on technical feasibility and achieving the optimal quality/price ratio. This project had some unique challenges: ?? Powering the device independently from the original product's power source ?? Extend battery life to minimize user replacement ?? Ensure precise communication between devices for seamless operation ? Through research and prototyping, we delivered a solution that runs on a button cell for long-lasting performance, accurate timing, and smooth communication. This project was not only about overcoming technical hurdles; it also allowed us to expand our expertise in supplier communication, complex software, and advanced electronics. We welcome them to join our team and give them a chance to experience being part of a responsible team. After six months with us, they return to their studies with valuable insights and experience. Let's see what they will take with them! ? Joop de Wild: “During my four-month internship at MMID, I learned various aspects of product design. Taking a project to the next level and feeling like a true part of the team was an amazing experience. I gained a lot of knowledge here, especially through conducting various tests on projects. My favorite test involved assembling models and then intentionally destroying them to analyze the damage and determine the force at which they broke. I will carry this knowledge with me and use it for the rest of my life. Special thanks to Bastiaan Soltész for helping me throughout my internship.” ? Luuk Nijmands: “During my internship at MMID, I had the opportunity to experience working within a highly skilled and competent design team. I greatly appreciated the chance to pursue and achieve the personal goals I had set for myself at the beginning of the internship. Throughout my time there, I learned valuable skills such as building prototypes, developing designs in CAD, and participating in regular client meetings to collaboratively brainstorm and discuss the project as a team. I enjoyed being deeply involved in all the projects I worked on. Additionally, I found MMID's systematic approach to work highly insightful, and it has been a valuable addition to my skill set as a future product designer. Matei Urseanu: “My highlights of the four months I spent at MMID fall into two categories: knowledge and work environment. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth to which colleagues go to ensure a linear and open transition into their workplace and collaboration style. More importantly, I was able to expand my skills in photo and video editing, content creation, and the integration of MMID's automated CRM software through Hubspot, all of which will help me in my career!” ? Thomas Keulers: “I had an amazing four months at MMID, diving into hands-on product development! Guided by Tilmann Studinsky and Stefan Klocke, I worked on projects from concept to design refinement, mastering skills like manufacturing-focused design, risk modeling, and validation testing. Beyond technical growth, I learned to navigate professional meetings and prioritize tasks. The experience, along with fun moments with colleagues like Nils Müller, Oscar Toetenel, Benedict Hartmann and Johan Veltman, has been invaluable for my future.
