Last Friday the Inaugural Wells Fargo Textile Entrepreneur Pitch Event was brought to fruition thanks to visionaries and connectors who believe in the power of the textiles. This event was hosted by the NC State Wilson College of Textiles, facilitated by the North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF) at NC State, and led by the incomparable Ana Cristina González de Alba. Less than a year ago, Marshall, Art and Michael L Rogers connected us to Suzie Koonce who had the vision for a signature event at the College, focused on the intersection of innovation and business, providing opportunities for small business growth for North Carolina State University students, Wilson College faculty, staff and alumni. Fast forward to last Friday, the future of #textileinnovation played out before our eyes. Textile products and businesses were presented that will greatly reduce pollutants, carbon emissions, provide healthy flame retardancy and provide health and wellbeing to growing babies. Last Friday, North Carolina State University hosted the Pitch to the Pack - Wells Fargo Textile Entrepreneur Pitch Event at the beautiful Park Alumni Center. This competition, organized by NC State Wilson College of Textiles, was designed to support North Carolina entrepreneurs. Our 35 participants underwent training on how to craft a pitch, submitted a pitch video for the preliminary round, and refined their ideas with the help of mentors. On Friday, our 12 finalists presented their groundbreaking ideas to a panel of expert judges. Five judged awards and four audience choice awards were given. Congratulations to all participants, and especially to the winners of the competition! A huge thank you to our sponsors and supporters, Wells Fargo, Suzie Koonce, Jay Everette, NC IDEA, Thom Ruhe, First Flight Venture Center, Ashley Davis, North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF) at NC State, NSF Engines: North Carolina Textile Innovation and Sustainability Engine.
