Creating a globally competitive Milwaukee region that fosters high-value employment to sustain a vibrant quality of life
关于我们
Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce’s (MMAC) vision is to create a globally competitive region that fosters high-value employment to sustain a vibrant quality of life for all. For more than 160 years, we have served area businesses as a private, not-for-profit organization. Today we represent nearly 2,000 member businesses with 300,000+ employees in Metro Milwaukee and beyond. Mirroring the region's business breakdown, more than 80% of our members are small businesses, employing 1 to 100 employees, while nearly all the region's Fortune 500 & Forbes 1000 are also members. United around the goal of ensuring long-term prosperity for both the community and its individual businesses, our engaged leaders take action and get results on impactful regional projects including Fiserv Forum, The Avenue, and American Family Field. Chamber membership provides access to numerous programs and perks, but at its core, you are investing in: TALENT: MMAC has been a long-time leader in building the region’s talent pipeline, especially for underserved and disadvantaged populations. We provide ad-hoc events and expert content supporting talent/workforce programming across an organization. EQUITY: Two years ago, MMAC launched a Region of Choice initiative, seeking to expand the number of Black and Hispanic employees and managers in Milwaukee-area companies. To date, 120 employers, representing more than 119,000 employees, have made the pledge to increase their overall Black and Hispanic workforce representation. GROWTH: We compete every day with regions around the country, and the world, to attract business investment and talent through the Milwaukee 7 (M7) Partnership for Economic Development. LIVABILITY: MMAC advocates on behalf of transformational projects that enhance the region’s quality of life, while seeking common-sense public policy solutions to ensure that challenges such as high property taxes, do not derail the region’s long-term future.

MMAC and its president Dale Kooyenga appreciated the opportunity this week to weigh in on Milwaukee Public Schools selection of its next superintendent as they begin their search process. In calling this decision "the most critical right now in the city," Dale spoke on behalf of MMAC membership about the qualities the next superintendent should embody. He said MPS needs to bring in a "fresh set of eyes - with new ideas and a palpable energy - to reform the system ..." He urged the district to consider someone from a large district who's faced similar challenges to those facing MPS. Taking it a step further, he said looking at candidates from outside of academia - from business, the military, public service or elsewhere - could be an out-of-the-box approach that proves beneficial. He also said the next leader needs to look at education our city's children through a wider lens. "A siloed philosophy to teaching our children has proven unsuccessful. The educational sector wars in Milwaukee need to cease and a more holistic, view, centered on students first, should be the priority over all other stakeholders." #MPS #MKE #communityengagement #academicsuccess

The manufacturing industry has certainly changed over the generations, but it is still our region's strength. To put it in baseball terms ... it's our fastball! With forward-thinking companies like Rockwell Automation and many others working on the cutting edge of advanced manufacturing at the same time Microsoft is making a huge investment in our region, it's clear that Milwaukee is a place where the information technology economy is intersecting with the manufacturing sector.?It's a great position to be in! MMAC President Dale Kooyenga weighs in on the huge opportunity we have in front of us in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. https://lnkd.in/gycxENiY
Opinion: Manufacturing is Wisconsin's fastball. Opportunities abound for economic growth.

Anyone that's spent time traveling to and from work in the region knows we have it good here. A report by the The Wall Street Journal confirms it ... Milwaukee is near the top of U.S. cities when it comes to commute times. The average one-way trip is less than 22 minutes here ... about five minutes less than the national average. Shaving just three minutes per trip off a commute three days a week can save a worker 13 hours a year, according to the analysis. That's more time to spend doing the things you love. The story's different for our neighbors in Chicago ... which, along with N.Y. and L.A, has the highest number of hours lost to delays during car commutes, according to the story. Lesson: Move here. Drive less! https://lnkd.in/ggVVzRSv

"Our belief is first and foremost in children, and our commitment is to ensuring all have access to high-quality education." Insightful, important op-ed from Howard Fuller, Colleston Morgan, Jr. and Abby Andrietsch about the popularity of school choice among the families that need it most in our communities. MMAC will continue to advocate for equal financial resources for students no matter where they attend. Every child deserves the opportunity to be successful. https://lnkd.in/gdb9m-3Q
OPINION: Wisconsin school choice isn’t controversial among students and families it helps
