The U.S. Coast Guard's National Maritime Center (NMC) has extended its customer service hours by an hour and a half! Thank you WorkBoat for publishing my article (Link in the comments). One of my favorite parts of MM-SEAS USCG Licensing Software is that our team of credentialing experts are tracking all of our customers applications at the National Maritime Center and work with the Customer Service team on behalf of a mariner if there are every any issues. We see this extended service window is a positive step towards streamlining the credentialing process for mariners. Increased accessibility will contribute to a smoother experience for the maritime workforce, allowing mariners to focus on their crucial roles on the water. The Coast Guard's commitment to clear communication and efficient processes will be instrumental in ensuring a thriving American maritime transportation system. Mariners and credentialing support personnel can now reach the NMC team for general credentialing questions until 5:30 PM Eastern Time (2:30 PM Pacific Time), Monday through Friday via phone at 1-888-IASKNMC (427-5662) or the USCG Live Chat tool The new hours are: Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM ET - 5:30 PM ET (5:00 AM PT - 2:30 PM PT) Looking for the fastest service? The Coast Guard recommends calling between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM ET (5:00 AM and 6:00 AM PT) to avoid peak call times. Just so everyone is aware, the NMC Customer Service Center provides general credentialing information, application status updates, guidance on using NMC checklists, and scheduling test appointments. They cannot evaluate qualifications or process applications but will direct you to the appropriate personnel for further support. The entire professional maritime industry worked together with the USCG over 5 years ago to eliminate the requirement to take a Radar Observer refresher or recertification course as long as you can provide documentation for one year of sea time on a radar-equipped vessel in the previous five years. For the USCG to renew your license with Radar Observer your sea service letter must state: YOUR NAME carried out Bridge Watch duties in a position that routinely uses radar for navigation and collision avoidance purposes. If your sea service letter is missing that sentence and you worked on a vessel in a position where you routinely used radar you should contact your company to have them add the sentence to your sea service letter. I actually forgot my own USCG license renewal is coming up quickly! I can not think of anything better than my own software giving me an automated message that my USCG license needs to be renewed soon. This is getting awesome.
