We are excited to be a part of the American Diabetes Association's Diabetes Prevention Alliance! Our Lifestyle Coach, Skylar Williams, MPH, went to Washington, D.C., last week to collaborate and innovate with partners to help expand the national diabetes prevention program!

MLK Health Center & Pharmacy is excited to announce it received a $100,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana Foundation to expand its diabetes programming into neighboring parishes to reduce our region’s risk factors for diabetes and other chronic diseases. MLK Health will work with partners across Caddo, Bossier, Webster, and DeSoto parishes to host health screening events designed to educate residents on their risk factors for diabetes and other chronic diseases. More details on screening events and education classes coming soon! MLK Health is proud to partner with the Blue Cross Foundation on improving health outcomes in our region.

MLK Health is excited to announce the official launch of our new Vision Clinic made possible by Red River Bank. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday. This vision clinic stems from the legacy of Dr. Joel Schulman, who launched our community's first free eye clinic years ago. Since his passing, Dr. John Brinkley, Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, has picked up the torch to carry on the mission of providing no-cost eye care to the uninsured. We are thrilled to partner with Red River Bank, Dr. Brinkley, and the Ophthalmology Department at LSUHSC to bring this critical service to our patients. Dr. Brinkley, along with his medical students, will host a monthly vision clinic at MLK Health for our patients. We already have our first round of patients scheduled for appointments this week. We are proud to make healthcare happen for our patients!
