MKN celebrates STEM Day and would like to highlight our dedicated engineers Sarah Mathews, PE, Senior Engineer I and Ryan Gallagher, PE, Chief Operations Officer for inspiring the next generation of engineers! Sarah and Ryan help children of all ages discover the wonders of STEM and unlock endless career possibilities! As a member of STEM, Ryan Gallagher, PE, visits his son's preschool classroom to teach and inspire young students about the world of engineering. He demonstrates engineering concepts in an engaging, age-appropriate way. Ryan's passion for STEM education helps spark curiosity and enthusiasm in the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators. Sarah Mathews, PE, is a proud board member of APWA Ventura County Chapter. When asked “Why is the program important to you?” Sarah reflects, “I don’t think I would have ended up in civil engineering if it were not for the opportunities that were given to me in high school through STEM organizations; it’s very important to me to give back and support STEM in hopes of paying it forward! As a high school student, I became very involved in MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement), an organization that focuses on supporting underrepresented students in pursuing STEM careers. Through that organization, I was able to travel to local University of California campuses and had a blast participating in STEM-based competitions such as egg drop, trebuchet, and spaghetti bridge, which put me on the path of selecting an engineering major in college and ultimately led me to pursue civil engineering. Our talented engineers just wrapped up an intensive two-day Project Management Bootcamp in Irvine to sharpen their skills in leading projects from concept to completion. They dove into mastering project lifecycles, budget optimization, and advanced team collaboration strategies—all to deliver even more outstanding results for our clients. ?? Outside of the training sessions, our team enjoyed the opportunity to connect over dinner and enjoy good food, drinks, and laughs. ??? MKN had a BLAST at the 2024 WEFTEC in New Orleans! ?? Several of our engineers had the opportunity to attend WEFTEC (Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference) in New Orleans! The event had unparalleled networking opportunities with over 1,000 exhibitors, 120 technical sessions, 17 workshops, and six facility tours. It was great to meet engineers and other leading professionals from all over the country. The exhibit floor had miles of booths showcasing innovative technologies and new equipment for the engineering field; it’s important to stay up to date with technological innovations to meet our clients’ needs.
