MKN Explores Innovative Water Treatment Technology MKN’s Principal/Chief Operations Officer, Ryan Gallagher, PE, was onsite at the City of Orlando’s Iron Bridge Water Reclamation Facility to tour an innovative technology in action. The AirSCWO unit by 374Water utilizes the properties of supercritical water oxidation to convert biosolids to inert and reclaimable minerals. The unit will significantly impact our industry as it reduces truck trips, completely destroys PFAS and microplastics, creates a usable byproduct, and operates as energy neutral. Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) will receive a similar 6 tons/day unit in early 2025, which is already in construction. With 75+ staff focused on water/wastewater in California, MKN understands the challenges our clients face with the future of biosolids management. MKN had the privilege of attending the American Public Works Association (APWA) #PWX2024 Conference in Atlanta! It was an amazing experience to tour the aquarium, attend various technical presentations, connect with vendors on the exhibit floor, and network with fellow APWA members from California, Hawaii, Nevada at the Region VIII Dinner. MKN’s Adam Bugielski, P.E.; Becca Bugielski, PE; and Sarah Mathews, PE were onstage alongside Justin L., APWA Ventura County Chapter President, to accept the Ventura County Chapter’s Presidential Award for Chapter Excellence on their behalf. Celebrating the Completion of Phase One of the Pasajero Groundwater Recharge Project! MKN was honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Westlands Water District’s Pasajero Groundwater Recharge project! This project is important to California as a whole, because our state is constantly facing the reality of another drought year. The goal of this project is to take excess floodwater during wet seasons and recharge the groundwater basin for future water supply during dry seasons. For Phase One of this project, MKN and Brown and Caldwell designed a canal turnout, a transmission pipeline, a traveling screen facility, and recharge basins. The facility is 100% powered by solar power and the conveyance facilities were specifically designed to utilize the hydraulic grade of the Coalinga Canal to be able to convey up to 30 cfs to the recharge basins without turning on a single pump.
