The Milwaukee Bar Association Foundation is deeply saddened to have lost a leader in the law and the community. Hon. Michael J. Skwierawski was the best of us. He leaves a path for how we can be better attorneys, judges, and people. Just two days before his passing he was participating in an MBA Foundation Board meeting, discussing the importance of the Milwaukee Justice Center, a concept he was chief in creating, and strategies to ensure its continued sustainability as an access to justice stronghold in Milwaukee. He will be greatly missed. https://lnkd.in/dUs6-8JN Milwaukee Bar Association

Supporting access to justice for all
关于我们
As attorneys, we have an inherent understanding of the power of the legal system, and where it falls short. The Milwaukee Bar Association Foundation was created in 1976 to leverage this knowledge to identify and support initiatives that endeavor to make the legal system fair and accessible to all. Our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly in the actions of our initiatives. We understand that by working together we can overcome our challenges much more efficiently.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. and Albert Orr for making the leading pledge of $150,000 to the Milwaukee Justice Center Sustainability Campaign! Milwaukee is lucky to be home to one of the most unique, innovative, and successful civil legal assistance programs in the country. The nationally recognized Milwaukee Justice Center (MJC) has been serving our greater Milwaukee community for nearly fifteen years; closing the gap between those who do not qualify for legal aid services but cannot afford legal counsel. These services are essential, especially in our state which ranks among the lowest in the nation in civil legal aid funding. The MJC is a collaborative project between the Milwaukee Bar Association and Foundation, Milwaukee County, and Marquette University Law School. The underlying philosophy of the project is that self-represented litigants have a fundamental right to access the justice system even if they cannot afford an attorney or do not qualify for legal aid.? ? Today, the MJC’s mission is only limited by its finite resources. Thus, as one of the three major partners in the MJC, the MBA Foundation is leading a sustainability campaign involving law firms, companies, philanthropic individuals and entities, and members of the bar to put the MJC on a solid financial foundation so that it will be able to continue to provide its services to our community well into the future. For more information contact the MBA Foundation's Executive Director, Sarah Martis, CAE?at (414) 276-5934.
