For those who have not met her, Jan is known for her remarkable ability to know the answer to absolutely everything while somehow staying the kindest, calmest, and most down-to-earth person in the room. ?For context, I probably asked her at least seven questions a day for the first three years of my legal career—and she always knew the answer or found a way to help me figure it out. With her incredible legal experience and leadership skills, she will play a key role in streamlining our operations, managing cases, and helping our clients navigate their legal challenges efficiently. This will be long-winded.? I'm sorry. But, let’s talk about the myth of “doing it all.” We’ve all seen those posts and articles that promise to reveal the secret to balancing a thriving career and a fulfilling family life.? ... We all mostly know the truth right? THERE IS NO SECRET. The reality of being both a parent and a professional is far from the polished images we often see and aspire to be. Sure, we’d all love to have an enchanted nanny who shows up at dawn with a latte in one hand and a briefcase full of completed work in the other, ready to take on the day’s challenges with ease. But the reality is much more complex—and often much messier. Here’s what it really looks like (and this is from conversation with friends and others in this stage of life): ?→ Exhaustion. The kind that doesn’t go away after one good night’s sleep because there’s ALWAYS more to do—both at home and at work. ?→ Overwhelm. Managing a career and a family can often feel like spinning plates, always worried that one might come crashing down. ?→ Survival. Some days, it’s about getting through the day, knowing that you gave your best, even if it wasn’t perfect. Balancing the demands of work and parenting isn’t about having it all together; it’s about managing the chaos as best as you can. It’s about fighting with opposing counsel while mentally running through who is going to get the kids to practice or finding creative solutions to problems at work that rival the creativity needed to convince a smart kindergartner to eat their vegetables (he refuses to accept they will make him taller). The key isn’t perfection—it’s resilience. It’s the ability to adapt, to juggle, and to find moments of grace in the midst of it all. It’s recognizing that while you might not have it all figured out, you ARE doing something incredible: you’re showing up, day after day, for both your family and your career.
