Yesterday I was able to present at @solaimpact for their career readiness program. I taught high school students from South Los Angeles about the college application process, career exploration and skill building during college. I covered the detailed college application process, cycle/timeline, terms, and various accessible resources as students are navigating this process. As a first-generation Latina, I remember independently navigating this process and how much I struggled to stay organized and understand the totality of the process. It was a privilege to teach students about this process as they were learning about this for the first time. As students learned this process I had them reflect about how their chosen fields of study aka majors, can impact their career development and processes after graduation. I shared information on how to navigate selecting a major and to critically reflect on the skills that can be gained from that major. I stressed the importance of building skills and gaining field experience through on-campus through student organizations, internships and research experiences. This is WHY I created CareerConfidence, to uplift the community and share the wealth of knowledge I have gained over the years. Students left feeling motivated and confident as they soon will be applying to college! So, I can undoubtedly say that this Career Confident Latina got the job done. 🤝🏽 📌 #careerconfidence #careerconfidentlatina #mjcareerconfidence #careergoals #career #firstgen #careerdevelopment #careerlatina #careercounselor #careertips #applyingtocollege #collegeapplications #collegecounselor
