Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids is eagerly preparing for its "Veterans Day 5". The annual event - this year, on Saturday Nov. 9th - includes options for a 1/2-mile walk/roll, a timed 5k, or a timed 5-mile run, starting and ending at MVH's 137-year-old historic campus in northeast Grand Rapids. The morning concludes with a community pancake breakfast held at the #veterans home. If your organization is interested in sponsoring this patriotic #WestMichigan event, please contact us at [email protected] (all proceeds from the event are deposited in the Home's Charitable Support Fund). Thanks to our friends at SpartanNash, Village Caregiving, LLC, Zero Day, myTEAM TRIUMPH West Michigan, Grand Rapids Event Management, Pioneer Systems Group, and the many others supporting this wonderful community event. Run. Walk. Roll. Volunteer. Sponsor. Donate. We're changing veteran lives for the better in later-in-life and end-of-life care. Join us. https://lnkd.in/eJaW6yjR

Michigan Veteran Homes offers quality long-term care to veterans and their eligible family members.
关于我们
Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH) is the administrative entity that operates the state’s veteran homes on behalf of the Michigan Veterans Facility Authority and is a branch of the Michigan Department of Military and Veteran Affairs. MVH strives to ensure that quality long-term care is provided to the veterans and their eligible family members that live within the Homes. High quality care for this phase of life is central to the “member for life” concept that DMVA embraces. The MVH operates the Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids (MVHGR), the Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MCHDJJ) in Marquette and the new Michigan Veteran Homes at Chesterfield Township (MVHCT).

Every year the Friends of Rolling Rock Ranch raise tens of thousands of dollars to support the mission and members of Michigan Veteran Homes. They provide our veterans hunting and shooting opportunities; they bring together friends and community for music, food, and camaraderie; and they include our veterans in the party. We’re humbled by - and grateful for - their selfless generosity and their impact on MVH #veterans.

At Michigan Veteran Homes, we've seen too many times the WWII veteran, the Korean War veteran, and others, who've sought care at MVH, and until their admission to a skilled nursing facility, they have never sought or received the benefits they earned in service. Encourage the #veteran in your life to seek out the benefits they earned, and deserve. If they can't do it for themselves, encourage them to do it for those they love and care about. “We have been given one mandate: inform #veterans of the benefits available to them and get them in the door for services,” he told me. “It’s an all-hands-on-deck outreach effort. The first in VA history, and certainly the largest in VA history, to get veterans to come to us.”

Today is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. It’s a day to remember and honor the sacrifices of our former prisoners of war, as well as the more than 81,000 personnel still missing – those who never made it home. It’s a day to reassure the families of those POWs and MIAs that we have not forgotten, and that America will not rest until each one returns home. At Michigan Veteran Homes, we encourage everyone to find their way to honor those brave men and women who sacrificed on our behalf, and their families. Attend a ceremony. Spend time in reflection. Learn about a POW and/or an American still MIA. Teach a young person about the day, and the sacrifices men and women make on our behalf. Reach out to the POW and/or MIA’s family member in your life, to reassure them that their sacrifice is not forgotten. Toast to those whose whereabouts remain unknown, and to America’s stalwart efforts to bring them home. Live a life that’s worthy of their sacrifice. Find your way to honor our POW/MIAs. Lest we forget.

Today, Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids celebrated and recognized some of our amazing #volunteers at the Home’s annual #Volunteer Appreciation Banquet. The theme this year was “Volunteers Light the Way,.” Just as lighthouses and navigational beacons ensure safe passage and chart the course for mariners at sea, our volunteers light the path for MVH and its people, giving the most precious resource each of us has: time. They are, indeed, a shining light for each of us. We’re honored to celebrate such remarkable human beings, and we’re incredibly grateful for their contributions to our mission, and the lives of our members. #veterans
