?? Packing & Unpacking: Research Insights from MIT CTL ?? Christopher Mejia Argueta, research scientist and director of the MIT Food and Retail Operations Lab (FaROL), sat down with Marina Mayer to discuss sustainability and circular supply chains for some recent publications in Food Logistics. ? ?? "Food supply chains are dynamic, complex, and subject to perishability. Therefore, they face several challenges when addressing circular economy models, which aim to recycle, reuse, and repurpose food" - Christopher Mejia-Argueta. ?? We are thrilled to announce this publication! ?? Rafael Escamilla, PhD, led this groundbreaking research on emerging market economies, using Latin America as the testing field. We also feel proud that he is a 2018 alum of the MIT GCLOG program and an active member of the MIT SCALE Network LAC. ?? We also congratulate his PhD advisors, Prof. Jan Fransoo and Prof. Prisca Brosi. We also acknowledge Camilo Mora and Christopher Mejia Argueta for their valuable contributions. #nanostore4ever #emergingmarketeconomies #50millionNanostores #digitalera
?? Packing & Unpacking: Research Insights from MIT CTL ?? A new paper from the MIT Food and Retail Operations Lab (FaROL) exploring the digitization of nanostores has been published! ?? "This pioneering work explores the main barriers to digitization in small, family-owned retailers (i.e., nanostores), in emerging markets. Given their informal status, shopkeepers tend to stay 'under the radar' and distrust any form of digitization because they are concerned that their transactional records might become transparent to the tax authorities, a phenomenon we term 'tax privacy concerns.' ?? Packing & Unpacking: Research Insights from MIT CTL ?? In the latest installment of research at MIT CTL, Christopher Mejia Argueta and Jafar Namdar have published their study, titled "Navigating Retail Inflation in Brazil: A Machine Learning and Web Scraping Approach to the Basic Food Basket", in the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services. "In response to the escalating challenges of global inflation, particularly in developing countries like Brazil, this study combines web scraping and machine learning to analyze inflation dynamics within the retail sector. By systematically real-time pricing and product data from a sponsor company and its four main competitors, we focus on Brazil's most consumed staple foods—beans, rice, sugar, and coffee." ?? ?? ? ?? ?? ?? Lots to Celebrate at SCM Graduation! ?? Yesterday, the MIT Supply Chain Management Master's Program students had their graduation ceremony where they were joined by Edgar Blanco, VP at Walmart and long-time friend of the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics, who delivered a powerful speech to kick-off the celebration. ?? Dr. Eva Ponce and Dr. Christopher Mejia Argueta celebrated their capstone advisees, Kalyan Prasanna Simha and Shantanu Baviskar, on their recognition for the best SCM Capstone Project: "Fresher Food Supply: Developing a Pick-to-Zero model for Produce DCs". ?? MicroMasters Credential Holder and member for the Blended cohort Elizabeth Marchosky also took the stage to reflect on her experience taking the MicroMasters and how it lead her to the SCM Program at MIT. Best of luck to all of the graduating students; it was an honor to watch you learn and grow here on campus with us at MIT. And to the Blended students, we hope you will stay connected to us and your fellow MicroMasters Credential Holders across the globe! ?? ?? #SupplyChain #SupplyChainManagement #OnlineLearning #LifeLongLearning #MastersDegree #Graduation #ClassOf2024 Yossi Sheffi Chris Caplice Maria Jesus Saenz Massachusetts Institute of Technology?
