Giving Families Hope

关于我们

The sudden onset of a critical medical condition and the devastation it brings to the family, 24/7 care and hardship become a way of life. These pressures present an enormous challenge to the health of the family unit. Aside from the health of their children, statistics show that families in these situations often dissolve, with bankruptcy and family separation as frequent outcomes. MTF comes alongside the families and helps by keeping the family unit together during these desperate times with support through our programs. Loss of income, most often, one of the parents has to quit their job to stay by the childa€?s bed side and care for them. Single parents cannot afford to give up their income and jeopardize their health insurance. The emotional stress on families tests them beyond their endurance, emotionally and physically. When no other resources are available, Mitchell Thorp Foundation provides urgently needed support by doing so this brings immediate relief to very stressful situations and helps create a sense of normalcy and improved quality of life in the family environment. Our success in preserving the family unit is 100% of those that come to us as a whole family in the beginning of our services.

  • We had a great time at our Youth Leadership Council meeting this past weekend! The session centered around the importance of adopting effective habits to improve personal well-being and interactions with others. A key concept discussed was the value of curiosity over judgment. Cultivating curiosity encourages open-mindedness, allowing individuals to learn and grow, while judgment can close off possibilities and create barriers in communication. Lastly, the importance of maintaining mental and physical health was underlined as a foundational aspect of building healthy habits. When individuals take care of their well-being, they are better equipped to engage with others in a positive and constructive manner. Both mental clarity and physical vitality support healthier, more effective communication and relationships.

  • Luca, age 4, has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He is high risk with intensive treatment and is currently in round 5 of chemotherapy. He is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant in the near future and a clinical trial for his type of cancer. Both parents have had to take a leave of absence to be with him at this time. Thanks to our donors, the foundation came to their rescue to help with the rent, gas and a food gift card while away at the hospital. • We love seeing our friends at SDG&E offering support to individuals & families who are in need of extra assistance. Did you know that customers with certain medical conditions may qualify for additional energy at the lowest rates through the Medical Baseline Allowance program? This helps offset the cost of operating medical equipment or maintaining necessary heating and cooling. Learn more at buff.ly/2OmCxfi.

After Treatment, which included brain surgery, chemo and intense radiation, was completed at the end of summer, he’s been cancer free! Through our Triumph Together program, he was able to have a great time at a Michigan State Hockey game and even meet some of the players after.

  • Joaquin, age 5, was diagnosed with a thoracic mass tumor on his spine. Surgery was performed to remove the tumor and has now left him with a lot of physical therapy. The family was referred to us by Rady's Children's Hospital, as the lengthy hospitalizations impacted the financial wellbeing of this family of six. Thanks to all of our supporters, the foundation came to their rescue through our Medical & Home Assistance Program, helping with their next month's rent and a $500 Visa gift card for food and gas while away at the hospital. Any donation is greatly appreciated to get this family through the next two months. https://buff.ly/4hupjpn

  • Elizabeth, age 1, has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. This precious little child has to undergo intensive treatments. Her mom had to go from full-time work to part-time, due to all the hospital and doctor visits. This has impacted this family of five financially, so the foundation is helping them under the Medical & Home Assistance to keep a roof over their heads. Please consider donating any amount to help with groceries, gas, and utilities. The family is so grateful. https://buff.ly/3EGLwC0
