The MIT Washington Summer Internship Program is featured today in Massachusetts Institute of Technology News! An excerpt: "Miranda Priebe ’03 is director of the Center for Analysis of U.S. Grand Strategy for the Rand Corp. She briefs groups within the Pentagon, the U.S. Department of State, and the National Security Council, among others. “My job is to ask the big question: Does the United States have the right approach in the world in terms of advancing our interests with our capabilities and resources?” Priebe was a physics major with an evolving interest in political science when she arrived in Washington in 2001 to work in the office of Senator Carl Levin, D-Mich., the chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “I was working really hard at MIT, but just hadn’t found my passion until I did this internship,” she says. “Once I came to D.C. I saw all the places I could fit in using my analytical skills — there were a million things I wanted to do — and the internship convinced me that this was the right kind of work for me.”" Thanks to Leda Zimmerman for writing & to our many alums who took the time to chat with her. cc: MIT Political Science MIT School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Charles Stewart , III https://lnkd.in/exwe4aDc

The 2024 interns had a unique experience last week: a dinner party hosted by Kathryn Jiang, an MIT alum and professional chef, alongside her spouse, Peter Su. The menu featured delightful pretzel twists, savory miso tofu, cauliflower rice, pasta primavera, and a refreshing grilled peach salad. This event not only connected our students with MIT alumni in the area but also provided a much-appreciated taste of hospitality they've missed while residing at GWU. A big thanks to Kat and Peter and a huge shoutout to Chef Kat (@chefkatdc on instagram) for all of your catering needs.

Earlier this summer, we had the opportunity to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the MIT Washington Summer Internship Program! We heard from 4 alumni of our program - Leah Nichols '00, Bonnie Krenz '08, Sam Rodarte '12, and Anoushka Bose '20 - who inspired us with their tales of internship-turned-career in DC and beyond. Faculty Director Charles Stewart , III gave us an overview of the last 30 years and a charge to continue the mission of our program - to bring STEM learning into policy spaces in DC - another 30 years into the future. MIT Political Science Department Chair David Singer shared his perspective on the program and its footprint at MIT and beyond. Enjoy some photos - of our phenomenal speakers, friends, and even 3 alumni from our inaugural year (1995!) who joined us.
