New research from MIT linguist and study co-author Athulya Aravind shows that a grasp of grammar helps even very young children figure out when they must acquire new words. "Even at a surprisingly young age, kids have sophisticated knowledge of the grammar of sentences and can use that to learn the meanings of new words," Aravind says. https://lnkd.in/gxicZXt4 #mitshass #MIT #linguistics #mitlinguistics

“We were then and we are now interested in questions of why do some countries become so much richer than other countries,” MIT economist and Nobel laureate Simon Johnson said on Boston Public Radio. “Within countries, do you generate shared prosperity or not? What determines that?” Johnson and MIT economist Daron Acemoglu spoke with Boston Public Radio about how strong democracies create strong economies. It’s great to see the amazing community-building activities at the MIT SSP (Security Studies Program)! Perhaps that is among the many reasons it is a world-class research program and continues to thrive. ????
We recently held a happy hour for our National Security Fellows at Flattop Johnny’s. The fellows took this opportunity to enjoy some billiards and refreshments while chatting with other SSP fellows, students, faculty, and staff. With representation from the four largest US military service branches, the Marines, Air Force, Army, and the Navy, the SSP National Security Fellows Program provides an opportunity for both scholars and practitioners of international?security to produce policy-relevant research and academic programming, all under the same roof.
