?? For our next member spotlight, we’d like to introduce Aarush Jain, an Engineer on our Behavior Team! ??? ?? Aarush is currently a sophomore at the University of Waterloo, where he is pursuing a degree in Mechatronics Engineering. His academic interests lie in studying dynamic, non-linear, and real time systems as well as developing algorithms to analyze these systems. ?? Aarush is actively involved in extracurriculars, and was a member of the University of Waterloo Alternate Fuels Team, where he worked on Model Predictive Control. He also recently completed an internship at a startup as an embedded software engineer, working on developing software for Driver Machine Interfaces. Last but not least, he is an Undergraduate Research Assistant, where he works on the autonomy stack of an F1Tenth Foundation car as part of the control and logic group. Through his love for self-driving vehicles, he hopes to be an autonomous software engineer in the future! ?? Attending the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed was a pleasure and an honor for MIT-PITT-RW. We had the unique opportunity to map the track, paving the way for future competitions, and showcase our car and competition at the IAC booth. ?? For our next member spotlight, we’d like to introduce you to Joey Maillette, an Engineer on our Behavior Team. ??? ?? Joey is currently a Junior at the University of Waterloo, where he is pursuing a degree in Computer Science. His interests in and around the classroom include mobile robotics, AI/ML, and autonomous systems software. ?? Joey has held two internships, working in software engineering and development, and is extremely passionate about software in the automotive industry. Coupled with his love for cars, it’s easy to see why Joey is such a great fit for the team. ?? ?? In his free time, Joey is a passionate PC gamer and automotive enthusiast. Andre is currently pursuing his Computer Science degree at the University of Waterloo. His academic and professional interests include Machine Learning & Engineering, which provide a strong foundation for his contributions to Behavior. ? ?? Beyond the classroom, Andre is a dedicated coder and enjoys keeping up with the latest in artificial intelligence research. ? ?? As a Path Planning Engineer, Andre plays a pivotal role in orchestrating the intricate dance of our racecar on the track. ?? Earlier this month, MIT-PITT-RW had the pleasure of hosting an information session on the University of Pittsburgh campus! Students had the opportunity to attend a presentation about the team and network with team members in various breakout sessions. ?? The event was a success, with a strong turnout and engaging discussions about the exciting opportunities that are offered to members. We connected with fellow students and continued building a strong network within the university community. ?? We are only at the beginning of what this challenge can achieve. As we prepare for a summer full of events worldwide, we reflect on the journey that brought us here—a journey marked by three years of student-driven evolution in autonomy. From initial simulations and training races to achieving the milestone of three cars racing autonomously side by side at the #CES2024 Las Vegas Motor Speedway in complete darkness, our progress has pushed the boundaries of high-speed autonomy like no other before. Starting off, meet Hiroki Ogasawara, a Project Manager on our Behavior Team! ?? Hiro is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His academic interests include Strategy and Product Management, and he is excited to apply these learnings to industry post-graduation. ?? Before joining MIT, Hiro was a Body Design Engineering Assistant Manager at Toyota Motor Corporation. At Toyota, he worked on ensuring a safe and durable vehicle body on several marquee Toyota models including the GR Yaris, RAV4, Highlander and many others. As part of his work at Toyota, he holds 14 patents & similar rights in the automotive industry! ?? Beyond the classroom, Hiro is an avid traveler and runner. He ran the Chicago Marathon in 2016 and has hopes of entering the Boston Marathon in the near future. ??
