MOCADSV unites Missourians with a shared value that rape and abuse must end.
关于我们
The Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MOCADSV) empowers individuals with the tools and resources that change lives. Since 1980, MOCADSV has been the statewide leader of individuals and organizations working to end rape and abuse in Missouri. Today MOCADSV’s mission remains focused on the work of “uniting Missourians with a common value that rape and abuse must end,and advances this through education, alliance, research and public policy. MOCADSV provides opportunities to engage in and meaningfully address domestic and sexual violence issues at a statewide level. We provide a positive connection to the issue that makes people feel like they’re part of something substantial—they don’t have to confront, manage or struggle with violence alone. We advocate to secure money for programs helping survivors, work to advance laws that protect Missourians, and ensure advocates are trained on evidence-based and data-driven practices. MOCADSV continues to be nationally and internationally recognized for our innovation in tackling the chronic questions and problems faced by domestic and sexual violence programs. MOCADSV empowers people to be a part of something constructive and significant. We change laws. We change lives. We unite to end rape and abuse.

MOCADSV wants to share a large accomplishment with our followers. This year is our 45th anniversary as the Missouri Coalition. What began in 1980 as a domestic violence coalition supporting fewer than 20 service providers is now a dual coalition supporting more than 90 members. Action Alert: Tell your representatives to vote NO on HB657 Find your Representative: https://lnkd.in/dyWfen3 The Missouri House of Representatives is likely to bring House Bill 567 to a vote tomorrow, threatening survivors' access to paid sick leave. HB 567 is a bill that would repeal the paid sick leave provision in Proposition A. Last November, Missourians voted in favor of Proposition A to raise the minimum wage and guarantee paid sick leave days for Missourians. Proposition A was passed by Missouri voters by nearly 58 percent and passed in 106 state house districts (52 of which were represented by Democrats, and 54 represented by Republicans). Survivors deserve the right to access paid sick leave days to seek medical care related to the trauma they and/or their children have experienced. #MOLeg #PaidSickLeave

According to the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, up to 94% of injuries female survivors of intimate partner violence experience are to the head or neck. Being a survivor of domestic violence often also means being a survivor of a traumatic brain injury. When survivors experience multiple traumatic brain injuries, they increase their risk for developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a neurodegenerative disorder that seems to be connected to repetitive head injuries. While education and research on domestic violence-related brain injuries continue to grow, this research must continue. Many traumatic brain injury studies fail to include women in their research. Increasing the number of women in these studies could help prevent further injury or death to survivors. As Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and Black History Month come to a close, we recognize how each person's identity and background inform their life experiences. Black youth, especially Black young women, are more likely to experience dating violence than their white peers. Black communities are also less likely to have access to the necessary resources to prevent violence and assist survivors of violence. By increasing education on relationship violence and resources, we can increase the number of safe communities. > Find resources related to teen dating violence at loveisrespect.org. > Find resources specific to the Black Community at ujimacommunity.org. > Find local resources by visiting mocadsv.org/ #TDVAM #TDVAM25 #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM25
