Scientists from the University of Missouri-Columbia have developed an innovative tool that could help lower drug prices in the future. The tool, called AshPhos, is a type of molecule called a ligand, which makes it easier to create carbon-nitrogen bonds which form the “backbone” of more than half of all medicines on the market today. Read more about this groundbreaking development below. https://lnkd.in/gcppCpn7

Congratulations to Dr. Giles Oldroyd on his appointment as the next President of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center! We’re excited to watch Dr. Oldroyd’s leadership continue to inspire new heights at the Danforth Center and drive the future of plant science worldwide.
After an extensive global search, the Danforth Center has named Giles Oldroyd, PhD, its next President. He is an internationally recognized plant geneticist and one of only a few hundred scientists in the world who are elected members of both the UK’s The Royal Society and the US National Academy of Sciences. "Dr. Oldroyd is a proven leader with a passion and strong commitment for improving lives through plant science," said Penny Pennington, managing partner, Edward Jones and chair, Danforth Center Board of Directors, who led the search committee. "Under his leadership, we are confident the Danforth Center will continue to drive innovative research, foster collaboration and expand its impact across the globe." Dr. Oldroyd currently serves as the Russell R. Geiger Professor of Crop Science and Director of the Crop Science Centre at the University of Cambridge. He is recognized for his work to understand symbiotic interactions between plants and beneficial bacteria and fungi that aid in the uptake of nutrients, especially nitrogen and phosphorus. He also leads the Enabling Nutrient Symbioses in Agriculture (ENSA) project, funded by Gates Agricultural Innovations. Dr. Oldroyd will step into his new role on October 1, 2025. His passion for the transformative power of plant science is contagious, and we are excited to welcome him to the Danforth Center! Read the full news release: https://lnkd.in/euXRKiMr
