关于我们
The Mississippi Watershed Management Organization is a special-purpose unit of local government operating under a joint-powers agreement between seven cities and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. We are involved in a variety of activities designed to protect and enhance water quality and habitat in the heart of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Our program areas encompass such diverse activities as monitoring pollution levels in the Mississippi River, funding major capital improvement projects to manage stormwater runoff and providing environmental employment and education opportunities to youth. MWMO member communities include Columbia Heights, Fridley, Hilltop, Lauderdale, Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Saint Anthony Village and Saint Paul. A map of our watershed boundaries is available on our website.

Salt may keep walkways safe in winter, but overuse comes at a high cost. Every ton of salt used causes $1,700–$17,000 in damage to infrastructure, from sidewalks and parking lots to flooring and vehicles. ???? ? Salt also degrades soil, kills plants, and leads to costly landscaping repairs in the warmer months. The reality? More salt does not mean more melting—using the right amount keeps surfaces safe while preventing unnecessary damage. For Winter Salt Week, we’re revisiting insights from Connie Fortin on low salt design, exploring smarter winter maintenance strategies that reduce costs, protect infrastructure, and minimize environmental impact. ? ??
