Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative

MRCTI cities in six states are on alert in preparation for fast moving, potentially very powerful storm set to impact the Mississippi River Valley over the next 24 hours. MRCTI is officially moving into emergency preparedness mode.

Great seeing the Mayor of Kansas City, MO at the US Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting this weekend in Washington DC. Might MRCTI be expanding to include cities on major tributaries in the near term? Stay tuned.

MRCTI cities are providing support to New Orleans in the wake of the Jan 1 attack. Harahan, LA provided 350 meals to security officers in last 24 to aid in response and investigation. This is cities-helping-cities at its finest.

All of us at MRCTI are saddened by the tragic events in New Orleans. Mayors along the Mississippi River stand with Mayor Cantrell and her team to offer support and any assistance.

It was great meeting the author of "Mapping St. Louis" a new book featuring a pictoral history of how St. Louis developed as a near-water city along the Mississippi River.

Mayor Simmons of Greenville, MS and immediate past co-chair represents MRCTI as the opening plenary speaker at the largest water tech conference in North America -- WEFTEC. Mayor explained that the future of water is with nature.
