Our office released an audit a few years ago that showed that anywhere from 5-7% of people on the Medicaid rolls were making too much money to qualify for the program. We identified people living in million dollar homes that had six figure incomes who still claimed to qualify for Medicaid. 5-7% might not sound like a lot, but it adds up to be anywhere from $60-$140M every year.

Since 2006, administrative spending in our K-12 schools has grown while inside-the-classroom spending has decreased. From 2006 to 2021, administrative spending increased by 6.51% while inside-the-classroom spending DECREASED by 7.76%. We also found that from that time period, daily attendance for students dropped by 60,000. So the state simultaneously has been increasing administrative spending while also serving fewer students.
