Mission Success is proud to announce a generous grant from the MARVY FINGER FAMILY FOUNDATION in support of our signature Academics Program. This critical contribution will help Mission Success continue providing high-quality, equitable after-school programming to underserved, low-income students in Houston. The Marvy Finger Family Foundation shares our commitment to empowering at-risk youth through education. With their support, Mission Success will further its mission to bridge the opportunity gap for students who need additional academic and wellness support to succeed in school and life. “This partnership with the Marvy Finger Family Foundation is incredibly meaningful. At Mission Success, we understand that poverty alone doesn't determine a child's future—it's the opportunities they have access to that can make all the difference. Decades of research have shown that children born into low-income households have less access to high-quality programs like after-school activities, and now, a new study published by the American Educational Research Association has quantified this opportunity gap for the first time. This 26-year longitudinal study followed 814 children from low-, middle-, and high-income families and found that nearly two-thirds of low-income children have zero or only one opportunity for enriching activities, while most high-income children experience six or more opportunities. The study highlights that this opportunity gap is a more powerful predictor of future educational attainment and earnings than childhood poverty alone. For example, children from low-income households who gained even a few additional opportunities were five times more likely to graduate from a four-year college and earned significantly higher salaries by age 26. At Mission Success, we are closing this gap by providing equitable after-school programming that combines academics, mental health support, physical fitness, and college access for low-income, at-risk students. The impact of even one additional opportunity is profound, and we are committed to ensuring that every student has the chance to thrive.
