Along with other honorees from our community who have done something extraordinary in our region, our Mission Hospital Stroke Program team members were the recipient of this year's Health Professional Heroes award. Inspired by their patients, the resilience of the human brain, our caregivers and stroke community, this team has grown stroke care at Mission over two decades to serve the 18 counties of WNC and provide tele-stroke services at 13 other hospitals across the region - not just within Mission Health! CarePartners Physical Therapist, Stacey Lynch, didn't hesitate to jump into action when an Asheville Racquet Club member unexpectedly stopped breathing and collapsed onto the floor earlier in May. Stacey and other members and staff responded by performing compressions and using the AED machine, a response that ultimately saved the members life. Thank you to Stacey and these other heroic women who acted quickly and with compassion when someone needed help. ?? Another season has come to a close. ?? A huge thank you to the Asheville Tourists Baseball Club for inviting Roger Fries from the Sterile Processing Department at Mission Hospital to throw out the #firstpitch at Saturday’s game! We were also proud to sponsor the Tourists' jersey giveaway that night as they became The Asheville Blues. Students have started back to school, and we were proud to partner with United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County for another year of their School Supply Drive and Backpack Pack and Sort! ???? To ensure local students have what they need to be set up for success, over 130 backpacks full of supplies, specifically selected for elementary, middle and high school students, were donated by Mission Health colleagues. Then dozens of our colleagues volunteered to help sort, stuff, and transfer over 2,000 backpacks full of supplies for youth-serving organizations like My Daddy Taught Me That., YWCA of Asheville, Asheville YMCA, and others!
