Foodservice Equipment Distributors Assoc. - More Operators Planning Equipment Purchases as Sales and Customer Traffic Improve The restaurant industry showed signs of growth in January, with higher same-store sales and increased customer traffic compared to the previous year. The National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Performance Index rose to 101.1, indicating expansion. Same-store sales improved, with 51% of operators reporting increases, up from 37% in December, while fewer operators saw sales declines. Customer traffic also rose, with 46% of operators noting more visitors, compared to 27% in December. With improved sales and traffic, 57% of operators plan to invest in equipment, expansion, or remodeling—the highest level since February 2024.
