关于我们
Since 2008, Mission Local has been in San Francisco's Mission District producing high-impact journalism while training the next generation of reporters who reflect the diversity of the city. Originally a project of UC Berkeley’s Journalism School, we struck out on our own in 2014.

And we're thrilled and excited to be a part of this!
?? ?? We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve selected the six newsrooms that will comprise the inaugural cohort of our Sustainability 360 program. Supported by the Google News Initiative, this program is dedicated to helping LION members reach the growth stage of our independent news maturity model. Congrats to Ctrl+P Publishing, Mission Local, SF, LOOKOUT Publications, RANGE Media, Planet Detroit, and The Buckeye Flame! Discover what each organization plans to tackle during the eight-month program.

A BIG congratulations to our board chair Frances Dinkelspiel on winning a Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism Alumni Award! Frances, who co-founded Cityside across the Bay, joined us earlier this year—an already transformative addition. Just this week, she helped us facilitate a Mission Local event with former Washington Post editor Marty Barton—the first of many such to come. Onwards and upwards. https://lnkd.in/gby_k83q

It's Election Day, and this is a reminder that Mission Local has been tracking all the candidate races, ballot measures, campaign finance, and more for months. All our reporting is on our elections dashboard—the most complete set of election information in San Francisco: https://lnkd.in/g-SvmrGH

We're *thrilled* to announce that we've won a general excellence award from the Online News Association — the second time we've won this award in just three years! Our series into big-money spending in San Francisco politics, ongoing election coverage, and impressive data visual journalism were all part of our submission. And judges specifically cited our commitment to training young reporters. We're excited our work was recognized, and we couldn't do it without all our readers. https://lnkd.in/g4e7pWvN

Last month, Mission Local won *six* state-wide accolades! We're late to celebrating ourselves, but: We took the No. 1 spot for both commentary and *general excellence* in our size category at the California Journalism Awards with the California News Publishers Association. The judges wrote: “Mission Local’s supervisor election coverage is unrivaled in this competition." In total, the judges gave us six awards, including nods for our coverage of the Dolores Park hill bomb, San Francisco’s $70 million in law enforcement settlements, and the shooting death of Banko Brown outside a mid-Market Walgreens. https://lnkd.in/ghGnebxH
