?? The split of ESG policies, red and blue states ?? ?? ?? The contrast between blue states (Democratic-led) and red states (Republican-led) concerning Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies underscores both political ideologies and distinct business climates. The overarching theme lies in the divergent approaches to sustainability, governance regulation, and corporate responsibility. ?? ?? The ideological schism between blue and red states over ESG matters has considerable consequences. Blue states increasingly pressure multinational businesses to align with high regulatory benchmarks. For example, the ESG-led New York "Climate Superfund Proposal" indicates higher costs targeting emissions compliance for firms. Meanwhile, red states relax coal extraction governance, rejecting the international collaborative focus dealing with carbon emissions altogether. ? Organizations operating across diverging regulatory jurisdictions find themselves grappling with inconsistent ESG adjustments. A business operating in California and Texas faces dual mandates incompatible regarding supply chain sustainability compliance. Such inconsistencies compel corporations to elect full trans-compliance auditing frameworks, especially for export-driven operations navigating European Union expansions. ?? To navigate this environment, multinational corporations may strategically adopt adaptive ESG compliance designs focused progressively externally yet maintaining defensive policies locally amid tight anti-regulation capitulations. ?? Recommended Actions (suggested by us and in the toolbox of Mission Grey): In-depth ESG Strategic Framework Analysis: Analyze the operational scope required adapting investment compliances balancing harsher (blue-state ESG laws) versus gap-based (red deregulation risks). Sectoral Impact Breakdowns: Unpack specific energy players bridging jurisdictional legislative battles critiquing greenwashing within coal/diesel markets. Risk Mitigation Planning Amid Legal Uncertainty: Would exploring legal insurance pathways advancing alternate carbon share guarantees interest you? ?? If geopolitical pitfalls attract your attention, stay tuned. We have interesting insights for you.

??? (Geo)politics is the landscape for ESG. If E, S & G are trees, (geo)politics is the forest. ?? ?? ?? ??? In the context of sustainability, the E, S, and G are important as individual sights, such as waterfalls or spectacular viewpoints with unique views. However, you need a map to find your way around the national park where you go hiking. ?? Active DEI policies were crucial during the Biden administration. Not anymore! In fact, they could possibly have negative consequences for organizations. ??? "We drill, baby!" is the opposite of significant efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. In EU, Omnibus is a prime example of the importance of understanding politics. The future of CSRD contains major uncertainties. ?? Bribery was completely unacceptable before the United States decided to suspend the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) for reassessment. Even suspending is a major signal that needs to be paid attention to. ?? Are you ready for (geo)political turnarounds today and tomorrow? If you need help, contact us. We'll get you covered.

?? The Firepower of Truth Must Match That of the BSer and the Liar ?? We often hear apologies for AI “hallucinations,” as if the problem is merely technical. But the real challenge isn’t just error—it’s that the truth-seeker is structurally disadvantaged. ?? The Asymmetry of Information Warfare Already two decades ago, Harry Frankfurt made a key distinction: ?? The BSer is indifferent to truth. They manufacture noise at scale, unconcerned with accuracy. ?? The Liar is strategic, crafting falsehoods with precision, using mass distribution channels to reinforce them. Yet being a liar is slightly harder—it at least requires knowing the truth in order to avoid it! ? The Truth-Seeker? They must painstakingly verify each claim, a slow, costly, and labor-intensive process. In the era of infinite content, this asymmetry is a crisis. Producing BS and lies is cheap. Verifying truth is expensive. ?? AI as a Force-Multiplier for Truth Business solutions optimize efficiency. But efficiency must serve more than profits—it must serve truth. If AI can accelerate deception, can it also amplify truth? Can it be leveraged to flip the economics of verification, making accuracy scalable? This is where AI Teammates come in. Instead of just automating tasks, they can assist in truth-seeking, helping to verify, contextualize, and filter information at scale. The same tools that boost productivity can also fortify the integrity of our information environment. ?? The Challenges Ahead Can AI-driven business solutions safeguard trustworthy information? Can we align market incentives with the fight for truth? The future belongs to those who multiply truth, not just chase efficiency. Welcome, Lauri T?htinen! We are excited to have you onboard! ??
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chief Executive Officer at Mission Grey! My work has revolved around writing and advising on world affairs. But as the world changes, so do our roles within it. At least half of the content of my workday has disappeared in the last couple of years. It has been automated -- or AI:ed -- out of existence. Faced with this shift, I had a choice: dwell on a sense of redundancy or embark on a journey to rediscover the core of what I do best. I chose the latter. And I believe that the work I am now engaged in can and will help other geopolitical analysts do the same.?This is why I’m excited about my new role at?Mission Grey, your AI teammate for the global political and business environments. The world isn’t getting any simpler. Expertise matters more than ever. However, the human mind alone struggles to keep up with daily shifts. We need all the help we can get: just turn to your teammate. More to come soon.

DeepSeek-R1 has dominated my news feed lately, and for good reason. To get a quick overview of its developments and potential global impact, I used Mission Grey's Assistant feature. I found the analysis provided a solid overview of DeepSeek-R1's potential impacts and offered good leads for further inquiry, such as the prompt, "Would you like me to analyze how the U.S. may respond to China’s open-source strategy and whether new policies might emerge to counteract this disruption?" within the system. (Disclosure: My family has a small financial interest in Mission Grey, and I serve as a non-resident advisor. However, this post reflects my independent analysis, but I wanted to be transparent about my connection.)
