All-Star Spotlight: Joe Meet Joe, a lifelong athlete and advocate whose journey began with the loss of his leg to cancer at just six months old. Growing up with a prosthetic, Joe refused to be defined by limitations. His determination led him to become the captain of Team USA’s Paralympic Standing Volleyball team, competing in the 1996 and 2000 Paralympic Games. Joe’s passion for helping others didn’t stop on the court. He earned his American Board of Certification in Prosthetics and became co-owner of Powell Orthotics & Prosthetics, where he mentors amputees and helps them reclaim their independence. “I know now how powerful it is for amputees to be paired with others who’ve walked a similar path,” Joe says. “It’s life-changing.” His story proves that perseverance leads to resilience—and resilience leads to greatness. Join us in celebrating Joe’s incredible journey at Mission Gait Foundation's All-Stars Night on April 19, 2025, at The Diamond! Stay tuned as we share more All-Star stories leading up to the big game! missiongait.org/all-stars #MissionGaitAllStars #NutzyWalkOfFame #Paralympian #AmputeeAdvocate #NeverGiveUp

With the help of generous donors, Mission Gait has been able to expand its reach through the Walking Free program to bring prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation to parts of the world where there was not previously. Walking Free’s involvement in the Dominican Republic began in 2001. At the request of the Ministry of Health, Walking Free was invited to consult in the area of prosthetics and orthotics as the government began to evaluate methods to provide training and education to Dominicans who were working in the area at that time. After meeting with various facilities and assessing existing needs, Walking Free decided to partner with the Asociación Dominicana de Rehabilitación in Santo Domingo to establish and enhance sustainable prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation centers. The collaborative efforts have included clinical and academic education programs in prosthetic and orthotic production and direct patient care. We look forward to expanding this level of care throughout the globe. The third and final pillar of our Mission Gait model is International Missions through our Walking Free Program, which encompasses various avenues to educate the global community about gait rehabilitation and establish prosthetic and orthotic programs in countries lacking these resources. Our objective is to enhance rehabilitation care capacity worldwide. We achieve this physically through initiatives like the recent establishment of the Solomon Islands Prosthetic and Orthotic Lab. Digitally, we provide free educational resources and offer online courses on Gait Rehabilitation. If you're passionate about helping our international missions, please consider donating to our organization: missiongait.org/donate #missiongait #walkingfree #internationalmissions #nonprofit #donate
