关于我们

Dolores Street Community Services works to prevent homelessness, create affordable housing, build community, and empower low-income residents of San Francisco. We accomplish this through culturally appropriate neighborhood-based services, education, advocacy, and community organizing. In addition to being a provider of direct services since our beginnings in 1982, the organization has expanded its work over the past several years to include advocacy and community organizing on important neighborhood issues including immigrant rights, land use planning, improving conditions in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels, and most recently helping immigrant men and women find economic security.

Still Feeling the Summer Heat? So Are We! As the warm weather lingers, we’re reminiscing about our Summer BBQ at the Dolores Shelter Program (DSP). Huge thanks to our dedicated staff for organizing and cooking up amazing food. The event was a true celebration of community! Since 1982, DSP has been a vital part of the Mission District, providing emergency shelter, meals, and support services to the Latinx and immigrant community. Located at 1050 South Van Ness, we continue our mission of offering bilingual, culturally competent services to those in need.

Today, we rallied at San Francisco’s City Hall, demanding the city act on its promise to build affordable housing on Parcel K in Hayes Valley. This land, reserved for affordable units, remains undeveloped despite years of planning. We are urging the city to prioritize affordable housing amid the ongoing crisis!

?? Client of the Month: William Cesar ?? Preferred name and pronouns: William Cesar (He/Him) How did you become aware of this shelter program? I called 311 and got referred. I was waiting for a bed for three months, first-come, first-served. Michael came and supported me. I would be in line every day and was sleeping in a park. I called the shelter every day to see if they had a bed for me. What are your hopes or goals for the future, and are there things this shelter program can do to help you achieve them? I'm waiting on the renewal of my citizenship or residency. Then we can go from there. Are there any specific services or resources provided by the shelter program that have been particularly helpful to you? None at the moment, other than staying here. How long have you been staying in this shelter, and how has your experience been during this time? I've been here since late October. It has been great. I suggested movie nights, and they agreed. If you had one piece of advice to give to your younger self, what would it be? None. ?? Michael vino y me apoyó. Ninguno.

Thank you, KQED, for highlighting the incredible work being done at the Stay Over Program! We’re proud to offer a safe and supportive space for unhoused families in San Francisco, where healing takes place not just through shelter but through community and shared meals. Even after winning protection to stay, ICE continues to hold immigrants in detention, causing severe harm to mental health. This is the reality one of our clients faced last year, and it’s an ongoing injustice that Mission Action is committed to addressing. Alongside other organizations, we’re standing up to demand that these practices end. Everyone deserves to live free from fear and confinement. #EndDetention Read the story here: https://lnkd.in/gxbJJptT
