This week, #MissioInvest is hosting another international training workshop in Abuja, Nigeria, for existing borrowers as well as potential social organizations in our lending pipeline from Nigeria, Cameroon, and Ghana. ? The workshop started with an inspiring keynote speech by Fr. George Ehusani, former Secretary-General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, highlighting the urgent need for legal reforms to empower social enterprises amid Nigeria's economic challenges. His call for collective action and unity to address these disparities resonated deeply with all attendees. You can read more about it in this article https://lnkd.in/dZaEDbZt. Additionally, his call for reform as well as Missio Invest’s Managing Director Keith Polo were featured on Nigerian television AIT Live's Newshour https://ait.live/ as shown in the attached clip. ? Titled “Resilience and Diversification,” the workshop features panel discussions and sessions led by existing borrowers across all our borrowing sectors: ? ??Navigating Economic Uncertainties in Education: A panel discussion with Sr. Christiana Archibong from Our Lady of Fatima (OLF, Nigeria), Fr. Pascal Siben from Buea Diocese (Cameroon), Sr. Christina Biyab from the Sisters of St. Louis (Kano, Nigeria), and Sr. Martina Nkiruka Offor from the Sisters of Jesus the Good Shepherd (Nigeria). ? ??Strategic Management in Healthcare: A training session by Sr. Ijeoma Okoye from St. Dominic Catholic Hospital, Nigeria. ? ??Strengthening Microfinance Banking: A training session by Fr. Gabriel from Ave Maria Microfinance, Nigeria. ? ??Innovations and Scaling Sustainable Agriculture: A panel with Fr. Michael Kagarko (Diocese of Zaria, Nigeria), Fr. Michael Adebo (Kano Diocese, Nigeria), and Fr. Emmanual Zinsu (SMA Fathers, Nigeria). ? ??Best Practices in Procurement: A session by Fr. Kodzo Delali Winfried Sraha (Diocese of Keta Akatsi, Ghana). ? These sessions aim to share knowledge and best practices across our network of borrowers in West Africa. ? Additionally, Mr. Ayo Akinduyite, Director at #PWC held a very informative session today on Financial Management and Effective Bookkeeping. Further presentations and trainings will cover change management, financial reporting, currency hedging, impact measurement and communication, and good governance. ? The emphasis of these Missio Invest workshops, which are now being hosted regularly across Africa, is on actionable learning and networking for all participants. ? We are certain this workshop will be just as successful as the one held in May 2024 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. We look forward to participants leaving the event tomorrow inspired and energized! ? #ImpactInvesting #BestPractices #WestAfrica

While many gathered for #climateweek, I was excited to help host a gathering with #faithbased investors to reflect on how the sector can be a transformative force in building a livable future. In an increasingly finance-dominated global economy, we need to address the dominant culture of finance and investing in our system. As Adrienne Marie Buller argues in the #ValueofaWhale, most of the instruments developed and propagated under the aegis of green capitalism just do not work. Estimates suggest the faith sector collectively manages 5-10 trillion in assets. Drawing from my involvement with the Economy of Francesco, I have been diving deep on the role faith leaders can play in turning the tides on our social and ecological crises, including with how they manage and invest their resources. Fifty years ago in the US, Catholic nuns helped birth the community financing movement. Today, these women, alongside other religious communities, faith-rooted family offices, foundations, healthcare institutions, diocese and others are coming together through Catholic Impact Investing Collaborative / Francesco Collaborative to discern how to be a stronger force in changing the culture of investing for the good of the planet and people. As Sr. Corinne Florek said at our gathering this week, “Our business training teaches us all about risk mitigation. But to have a livable future, we need to learn how to take new risks, and to risk again. Our relationships should lead us.” This way of working isn’t possible without strong community. So many remarked that they had felt alone in these longings and now feel they have found a community. Leaning more into a relational way of seeing our economy and investing isn’t just the work of heads, but of hearts. That’s why our gathering included reflections and rituals on grief, fear, belonging, courage and hope. I’m convinced it’s the only way we will unleash a much needed, new imagination for our future economy. Grateful to so many for co-creating and stewarding this bold vision together especially Felipe Witchger Bill Hatch, CFA Kelli Reagan Hickey Brian Boland Jeff Rauenhorst Kayoko Lyons, CFA John O'Shaughnessy Kayoko Lyons, CFA Lisa M. ?????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ??????????????????????????: ?????? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ?????????? ?????????? ???? ?????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ?????????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???? ?????????? ?? ???????????????? ???????????? ? The Kalundu Conference Center (KCC), managed by the Zambia Association of Sisterhoods (ZAS) in Kalundu, Lusaka, has a rich history of service and education. Established in 1971 by the Zambia Episcopal Conference (now the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops), the center initially provided accommodation for religious sisters studying at the University of Zambia. Over the years, it has evolved into a hub for holistic formation programs, offering courses in leadership, spirituality, personal development, and theology to sisters from across Africa. ? To ensure a steady income for the sisters, KCC has expanded its facilities to host seminars and workshops, featuring two conference halls with capacities of 120-150 participants and 47 accommodation rooms. Recently, ZAS secured a Missio Invest loan to build a kitchen and restaurant, enhancing their offerings to guests. These new facilities are set to be completed by October 31, 2024. ? However, frequent national electricity outages in Zambia pose a significant challenge. With power available for only three hours a day, and sometimes none for three to four days, the center's operations were severely impacted. Recognizing the need for a reliable power source, KCC invested $25,000 in 24 solar panels and 5 lithium batteries. This sustainable solution ensures continuous electricity, lighting, and device charging for the entire facility, including accommodation rooms. This move also aligns with Zambia's growing emphasis on renewable energy, which accounts for 81% of the country's total energy supply. ? As the new dining and restaurant services launch in November 2024, this sustainable energy solution will safeguard KCC's income and enhance the experience for their clients. By turning a challenge into an opportunity, ZAS exemplifies the impact-driven approach championed by #MissioInvest, fostering resilience and sustainability in the communities they serve. ? #RenewableEnergy?#SocialImpact #CommunityEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment

?????? ???????????? ???? - ?????????????????????? ?????????????????????? ?????????????? ???? ????????????! ? The Malawi National Examination Board released the 2024 Malawi School Certificate Examination (MSCE) results this week, and we are thrilled to share the outstanding achievements of our borrower’s schools. ? Despite a challenging year with only 54.79% of students passing nationwide, our partner schools have excelled, showcasing the impact of Missio Invest's support on education in Malawi, especially for girls' education: ? ?????????????????? ?????????????????? ???????????? (???? ??????-?????????? ????????????) ?? 100% pass rate with all 210 students passing and earning 520 distinctions. ?? Top school in the country for English, with 6 students achieving grade 1 distinctions. ?? 118 students scored between 10 to 20 points, with the top student scoring 10 points, placing the school among the top six nationally. ? 160 students are expected to be selected into public universities. ?? The success is attributed to the recreation hall hosting national education events and the improved living environment for students from the loan-funded hostel and clinic. ? All schools operated by another borrower, ???????????? ????????????????, also did exceedingly well, such as Likuni Boys Secondary School, Zomba Catholic Secondary and St. Charles Lwanga Community Day Secondary Schools. ? According to the?Borgen Project, only 8% of students in Malawi complete secondary school. Overall, only 14.9% of adult females in Malawi have attained at least a secondary education, compared to 24.2% of males. These statistics underline the critical need for continued investment in education, particularly for girls, to bridge these gaps and empower the next generations. ? The achievements of our borrower’s schools highlight the transformative power our loans can have in enhancing educational infrastructure and opportunities. We are proud to support schools that are making a significant difference in the lives of students, particularly girls, and contributing to the future of Malawi. ? #Education #Empowerment #GirlsEducation #Malawi #MissioInvest #MSCE2024 #EducationalSuccess
