After nearly 23 years in the home, MRA’s clients were ready for some meaningful changes to help ‘pivot’ the original 1959 building to better suit their lifestyle with grown children. Framing is well underway for this brand new single family home in Queen Anne. The home, designed by Board & Vellum, will include vaulted ceilings in the primary bedroom & stairwell, white oak finishes, and a white oak slate wall. The project will also encompass passive house elements, including solar panels, high efficiency HVAC and water heating systems, and an HRV. Our team is working to reach passive-level air tightness, and achieve a blower door test value of 0.6 ACH upon completion. The clients of this Mt Baker project found themselves at a point where a significant change was desired in all primary living areas. Together with their architect Alix Day, they derived an approach that fused modern and traditional in a way that both pays homage to the home’s traditional roots and captures the artistic spirit of the client.?
