We grow minerals with negative carbon footprints for the cement and concrete industries.
关于我们
Envisioning a world where concrete buildings and the world’s infrastructure are carbon-storing rather than carbon-emitting, Minus Materials is cultivating a carbon-negative limestone from algae. This biorenewable limestone performs the same as quarried limestone – the key feedstock in cement production - and meets essential standards, but without the embodied carbon penalties. When heated, it only releases CO2 that was previously sequestered from the atmosphere during the algae’s lifetime. This stands in contrast to the production of cement from quarried limestone, which causes a new release of carbon dioxide – a reaction that is responsible for 60% of the emission associated with portland cement production. And because it is a limestone, this step on the path to producing carbon-negative cement will not require process disruptions by cement manufacturers.

We are thrilled to share the Decarbonized Cement & Concrete Alliance (DC2) with the world! ???? Our CEO, Sarah Williams, PhD, commented on the initiative, “Concrete is the second most used material on Earth after water, and it will take a village to decarbonize it! Minus Materials is proud to be laying the foundation for that village alongside the rest of the DC2 by promoting collaboration throughout the ecosystem and working to advance our shared policy goals.” Thanks as always to our amazing partners in DC2 - Biomason, Blue Planet , Brimstone , CarbonBuilt, Chement, Fortera, Queens Carbon, Sublime Systems, and Terra CO2 Technology. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Biomason,?Blue Planet ,?Brimstone ,?CarbonBuilt,?Chement,?Fortera,?Minus Materials,?Queens Carbon, Sublime Systems and?Terra CO2 Technology are proud to come together as the Decarbonized Cement & Concrete Alliance (DC2). We are working to engage the U.S. public sector on transformational policies that will accelerate deployment of our collective technologies to address the urgency of our climate crisis. We aim to advance a future where low-carbon construction materials are the norm, scale up our industrial manufacturing base, create U.S. jobs and a strong supply chain, and promote environmental justice throughout this transition.
