Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, celebrating the invaluable contributions and resilience of Indigenous peoples while recognizing their inherent sovereignty and the federal government’s treaty obligations to all Tribal Nations. At the Arboretum, to honor the Dakota people for their care of and knowledge of the land on which the Arboretum now stands, we offer waived admission for all Indigenous peoples. (Simply call 612-301-6775 to book tickets.) We also invite all visitors to experience the ongoing Dakota Sacred Hoop Walk on our grounds. This augmented reality exhibit by Spirit Lake Dakota digital artist Marlena Myles features five stops, starting in the Harrison Sculpture Garden. Plus, visit the Reedy Gallery to see Beyond Boundaries: An Exploration of Indigenous Art. Discover a world where culture, tradition and imagination intertwine through the eyes of six Indigenous artists, including co-curator Heather Friedli. #MNarboretum

Yesterday, our team spent the morning volunteering at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum - Horticultural Research Center as part of their Annual Pumpkin, Squash, and Gourd Harvest. ?? This place is home to the Honeycrisp apple ??, and each year, they sell a variety of seasonal produce (such as pumpkins, gourds, and squash) to help support the Apple House. It was awesome to contribute and help them kickstart their fall season! ??

???? Happy Johnny Appleseed Day! ?Today we celebrate the legacy of John Chapman, famously known as Johnny Appleseed, the legendary nurseryman who spread apple seeds across the Midwest. Instead of grafting, Johnny introduced planting trees from apple seeds. Johnny Appleseed's dream was to produce so many apples that no one would ever go hungry. ???? To celebrate his generosity and passion for conservation, swing by the AppleHouse and pick up some locally grown apples! ?? #MNarboretum #JohnnyAppleseed

Thank you to The Minnesota Star Tribune for sharing Seeds of Knowledge & Healing Hmong Botanical Garden at the Arboretum. This year, the Arboretum’s community partner is Zongxee Lee, who comes from a long line of Hmong herbalists, or healers. Through this living exhibit, she is telling the story of how her family came to the U.S. after the Vietnam War, bringing precious medicinal herbs with them, and how they have been keeping these herbs and their medicinal traditions alive in Minnesota. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gsgPkcb8

The temperatures are dropping, and the leaves are changing—fall is here! Today marks the official first day of autumn and the fall equinox when day and night are nearly equal in length, and the Earth is not tilted either toward or away from the sun. Celebrate the season by visiting the Arboretum to catch those vibrant fall colors taking over. ???? Happy Fall! #MNarboretum #FallEquinox Photo by Sara Pace

The Arboretum's Children’s Education Program received an inspiring and unique $6,600 contribution last week thanks to a local fishing tournament. Longtime Arboretum member and donor, Bill Laing, won a fishing contest on Lake Minnetonka this summer organized by Intera Capital Partners. Each year Intera donates the entrance fees to the fishing contest to the winner's charity of choice. This year, Bill Laing was the winner and wanted to donate his winnings to the Arboretum. Bill and his family have strong ties to the Arboretum. His mother Lucy Laing has a tree memorial in the Dayton Wildflower Garden, his wife Dar Laing has a tree memorial in the Pine Collection and his dear friend Robert Rose has a trail bench located in the Pine Collection. Special thanks to all who were present at the recent check presentation (left to right): Nate Kells, Arboretum Membership Manager; Rahi Patel, Arboretum Annual Giving Officer; Jim Roberts, Founder and President of Intera Capital Partners; Bill Laing Arboretum member and donor; Joyce Egersett, Arboretum Memorials & Tributes Manager; and Joanie Skallman, Intera Program Manager/Marketing Strategist. Please accept our deepest gratitude, Bill and Team Intera. Support from passionate community members like you keeps our organization going strong!
