Today is the day when thousands of Minnesotans come together to support the causes they care about most, helping make Minnesota a better home for all. Today, we're asking you to help us reach our goal. We've crunched the numbers; $200 protects one acre of critical habitat in Minnesota. And today your impact is DOUBLED thanks to a $30,000 gift match from the Smikis Foundation. That's double the acres. Double the protected rusty patched bumblebees. Double the oak trees. It's twice as many places for kids to play and learn to love Nature. With your support, we're working across Minnesota to protect tullibee lakes, pollinator prairies, carbon-storing forests, rare oak savannas, disappearing wetlands, and so much more. As Minnesotans, it's our responsibility to protect and restore the beautiful lands we call home. Every action we take now ripples into the future--let's make sure that future includes clean air and water, and abundant nature. ?? Go to https://lnkd.in/gaUnhJB6 to donate.

Permanent land protection & restoration promoting natural climate solutions and preserving nature for everyone forever.
关于我们
The Minnesota Land Trust is a private, nonprofit organization that works across Minnesota with private landowners and partners to permanently protect land and shoreline and restore habitat to preserve and improve the scenic beauty, environmental services, and recreation value of our rich and diverse natural spaces. This work is more critical now than ever as we confront the twin threats of accelerating climate change and land development. Natural climate solutions including habitat defragmentation, increasing biodiversity, and carbon grounding are a part of every protection and restoration project we complete. Specifically The Minnesota Land Trust helps conserve the state's most vital natural lands through establishing and monitoring permanent, legal conservation easements. We have protected more than 75,000 acres and 460 miles of shoreline, and restored 4,886 acres of land in the most critical landscapes statewide. Our programming also includes actively connecting people to meaningful nature experiences in order to build a conservation ethos to seed future generations of conservationists. To date, we've also protected over 35 camps, nature centers, and environmental learning centers.

?? Happy Bat Week 2024! ?? Bats play a vital role in Minnesota’s ecosystems, from helping control insect populations to pollinating plants and dispersing seeds that ensure our forests stay healthy. ???? Minnesota is home to 8 bat species, and we’re committed to protecting the natural habitats that each and every one of them—and countless other species—rely on. By conserving forests, wetlands, and grasslands, we help ensure that Minnesota’s native bat species have safe places to roost, forage, and thrive. And these heroes of Halloween need our help because habitat loss and diseases like white-nose syndrome are causing populations to decline. ?? Here's how YOU can help Minnesota's bats: ?? Support land conservation that protects vital bat habitats like forests & wetlands. ?? Install a “moon” garden with light-colored native plants to support bats and moths. ?? Install a bat house in your yard to provide shelter. ?? Reduce light pollution ?? Avoid pesticide use ??♂? Be a bat advocate! Share this post and spread the word about bat conservation. This Bat Week, join us in celebrating the important role bats play in Minnesota’s natural landscapes. Together, we can protect these nocturnal wonders and the places they call home. ?? #BatWeek2024 #MNWildlife #BatsOfMinnesota #ConservationHeroes #ProtectWildlife #BatConservation #EcosystemChampions

?? Like & Share! This time of year can be especially precarious for wildlife as people decorate for Halloween and perform fall cleanup tasks. So here is your annual reminder to #leavetheleaves and opt for a wildlife friendly Halloween. Be sure to tell the others! ?? According to the U.S. EPA, leaves and other yard debris account for more than 13% of the nation’s solid waste. When it sits in plastic bags, this organic matter releases methane gas, which is over 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide in trapping heat in the atmosphere. ?? Many wildlife species use the leaf layer as their primary habitat. 94% of moth species rely on the leaf layer to complete their life cycle. Caterpillars find cover under leaves and emerge as adults next spring. Most of our backyard birds rely on those butterfly and moth caterpillars as the primary food source for their young during nesting season. If you remove all of the fallen leaves, there will be fewer of these insects in and around the yard and likely fewer birds, too. ?? The timing of our fake spiderweb decorations is especially difficult on birds, bats, and owls. Just as we are turning our homes into spooky spectacles, birds are migrating in large numbers. Much of the wildlife prone to getting tangled in these faux webs, including a number of songbird species, are already facing declining populations so every little bit we can do helps. ?? When it comes to land critters, your carved jack-o’-lanterns are a rare treat! Squirrels, raccoons, deer, moose, foxes, mice, and insects will feast on the delicious orange porch snack. Using paints or toxic chemicals to preserve your pumpkin poses a serious threat to these animals. If you choose to paint rather than carve, please keep your gourd indoors and safely away from wildlife who are increasingly seeking alternative foods this time of year as other food sources become more scarce. ??
