  • Hennepin County announced the effective end of Veteran homelessness in its communities. This milestone brings Minnesota one step closer to becoming the fourth state in the country to end Veteran homelessness. Speaking at a news conference, MDVA Commissioner Brad Lindsay said, “ At a time when homelessness is rising across the country, we’ve turned the tide. Since February 2023 in the Hennepin County area, Veteran homelessness has been reduced by 50% and chronic Veteran homelessness has been reduced by an astonishing 92%! Each of these numbers represents a Veteran who now has a home because of the unrelenting efforts of MDVA, MACV, the VA, Hennepin County, and our many partners.”

Hennepin County and our partners are housing and helping veterans overcome homelessness at a higher rate than veterans are coming into the homelessness system. Our systems ensure that veteran homelessness is rare, brief, and nonrecurring. While we know that much remains to be done, we are celebrating alongside Hennepin County employees, leaders, our partners, such as U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels. We are incredibly proud of Neil Doyle, Director of our Veterans' Services department and our team of Veteran Services Representatives! Their dedication and hard work ensure that our veterans receive the support and recognition they deserve. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of those who have served. Effectively ending veteran homelessness does not mean veterans do not ever experience homelessness, but that when veterans do experience become homelessness, our system is prepared to quickly respond and move people them back into permanent housing. #VeteranSupport #CommunityHeroes #ProudToServe #HennepinCounty
