Join us on Tuesday, March 25th from 6:30–8:00 PM at Victoria City Hall (1670 Stieger Lake Lane, Victoria, MN 55386) for a public meeting on the East Auburn Wetland Restoration Project. The wetland restoration project aims to enhance water quality flowing into impaired East Auburn Lake. MCWD and the City are planning to complement the restoration by replacing a failing pedestrian boardwalk. This project continues our commitment to improving water resources in the watershed’s headwaters, the Six Mile Creek-Halsted Bay (SMCHB) Subwatershed. For more details on this project and our ongoing efforts in the SMCHB Subwatershed, read and subscribe to our SMCHB project newsletter. https://lnkd.in/gYugpau4 #waterresources #publicmeeting #watershed
关于我们
The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is the regional governmental unit responsible for managing and protecting the Minnehaha Creek Watershed's water resources, including and immediately west of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The District was established in 1967 under the Minnesota Watershed District Act, which recognizes that hydrologic boundaries rarely match political boundaries. The 1955 act established watershed districts to integrate water management efforts between city, county, and state agencies. The District covers approximately 178 square miles that ultimately drain into Minnehaha Creek, which then enters the Mississippi River. The watershed includes natural treasures such as Minnehaha Creek, Lake Minnetonka, The Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, and Minnehaha Falls. There are eight major creeks, 129 lakes, and thousands of wetlands within the MCWD. Happy holidays from the MCWD team! It’s been a busy year for us, and we’re excited to share our progress in the Year in Review newsletter. ? In 2024, we advanced key projects and policies focused on Balanced Urban Ecology, collaborating with public and private land use partners. We made significant strides in our focal geographies, launched the Land & Water Partnership program for integrated planning, and refined our management of Gray's Bay Dam in response to extreme weather, emphasizing the need for thoughtful flood resilience. ? Looking ahead, we’re preparing to develop the 2027 Watershed Management Plan, which will focus on our regional flood management efforts, and guide our work for the next decade.? ?
