Welcome to Fernando Santiago, MD, PhD, MSc who recently joined the Heart Rhythm Team as a Senior Scientist. ?? Dr. Santiago is a molecular biologist with expertise in aging, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and stem cell biology. He comes from a medical family, with his father being a cardiothoracic surgeon and former Chief of Ambulatory Medicine at the Atlanta VA Hospital, and his niece is preparing to enter her residency. This past weekend, we held another successful echocardiography screening event in an underserved community, in collaboration with Axis Clinic. If I was to tell this stuttering Prairie girl (ifykyk) you would be speaking to a worldwide audience about yourself, I'd say "it better be for a damn good reason". As a heart patient, I have been so impressed with the organizations wanting to share and understand what the experience is of the people they serve, whether directly (Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation) or very much upstream (Heraeus Medevio). The knowing of it helps express their mission. In my doing of these videos, what I have seen completely are humans trying to help other humans, in many forms and ways. How good to know this.
